7th on the list and I seem not to have moved, so I'm going to do a Jim and throw a little tant Smile about more recent requests "bumping older ones down the list".

In addition, there are now 2 additional (refs) for my original request, but these subsequent requests are not totally similar, as the 2nd two call for saved searches or more powerful filtering, whereas my original one is a sort of an attempt at a "don't miss your favourite show" function.

It would work like this:
  • Lets say every year NYPD or ER shows on TV.
  • Now if I left last years "Season Recording" it would only record NYPD (XII) or ER (XII) whereas this year its NYPD (XIII) or ER (XIII).
  • So I want to have a section with saved searches (lets say "NYPD" on XYZ Channel, but not one where I have to manually do that saved search, but rather everytime the EPG is updated (or every 1 week or 2 weeks or whatever time interval), if it sees that NYPD has popped up in the EPG it gives me an alert at login "Saved Search Program found - Do you want to view".
  • Or even a check-box option to automatically season record any shows with "NYPD" in the name on XYZ Channel, so I don't even have to manually schedule it.
References which are probably closer (but not identical to my request) are encapsulated in the following posts. I actually thought these were the additional references, which is one of the reasons I post again now, as I'm not sure if I was very clear with my original request.
  • Auto record on keywords
  • Movies to Watch For
Anyway, that's my wish for EWA, which I use MUCH MUCH more than GBPVR's EPG or any seach features.

Cheers and thanks UJB, EWB is still great :-)

I second your request. Not so much for the reasons you point out, but rather because EPG's are sometimes not giving the exact title or include subtitles in the actual title (which can be solved with other tools as well). Hence recording on keywords would (largely) solve this.

The wiki reads....
Todo/Wishlist

(from most likely to least likely)

This is because some things are more complex and will require a great deal of time to implement as compared to other things.....doesn't mean it is not going to get done but my time has been limited the last month and will be tight the next couple of months with year-end work at my real job.... Wink

Hmmm....my season recordings from last year picked up fine....I didn't have to redo anything to get things to record from last season to this season. Are you saying that this did not happen for you?

This sounds easier than it would be....I would need to either code the saved Show info in the config file or create a seperate DB that would hold the info that would be used to compare things against the updated EPG.

Since EWA is a web app this check would need to occur real-time whenever you access EWA. It could be coded to only check it on first access of EWA for the day so this isn't too big of a deal.

Since you can access the EWA on any given page on startup and do not require login the "alert" would need to be coded into each page or a "View Alerts" type of page would need to be created.

This still has me perplexed.....based off of my above observation that a season recording should roll from year to year. It almost sounds as though yours are not or the name of the show you want to record changes names in your EPG. Is this the case?

I have added this reference as the first reference in the list....I think this spells out what you are looking to have happen.

No Worries UJB, I was actually just searching and came across Jim's old post ... pity there's no icon for a "Virtual Pout" (like my 2 yr old daughter's) because that's what Jim's post was like, it just struck me as funny ...

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:Hmmm....my season recordings from last year picked up fine....I didn't have to redo anything to get things to record from last season to this season. Are you saying that this did not happen for you?
Correct, it did not pick it up. I suspect the reason is that GBPVR thinks a Season Recording of ER(XII) is not the same as ER(XIII) and I believe it would be correct in thinking that, otherwise it would not be following the rules.

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:This sounds easier than it would be....I would need to either code the saved Show info in the config file or create a seperate DB that would hold the info that would be used to compare things against the updated EPG.
Hmm, not being a programmer (thank goodness) I have no feeling for just how difficult it would be to implement, but I believe you.

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:This still has me perplexed ..... based off of my above observation that a season recording should roll from year to year. It almost sounds as though yours are not or the name of the show you want to record changes names in your EPG.
Is this the case? Yes, the latter. Like I noted in my first post, I "could" strip off all the (XII) etc. using TVXB, but it's a bear to do and I actually LIKE having the season's (for archiving purposes) as ER, ER, ER, ER ... doesn't tell you which season you have. Zap2it probably does a much better job than my TVXB setup; Zap2it might have have ER as the show name and (Season XII) as the sub-name, in which case your yearly rollover scenario would work just fine. But my entire show name is ER (XII) or ER (XIII).

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:I have added this reference as the first reference in the list....I think this spells out what you are looking to have happen.
Lovely. Yes, it does.

Cheers UJB, you're doing a grand job and your efforts are very much appreciated.

I've mentioned this before, but is worth saying again, I use the EWA exclusively for scheduling programs and invariably do this from work and for this it is an invaluable part of GBPVR. I think I've only ever scheduled a recording from GBPVR once or twice the whole time I've used it. A 2 and 3 yr old at home doesn't allow much time to do this. There are so many things I'm really looking forward to be integrated into EWA, even some external apps / tools that already exist. eg's are
  • Check boxes for transcode this recording (or seasons recordngs) to this that or the other format after completion.
  • Run comskip/comclean as default except if you uncheck the tick box for a particular recording. This because for some progs comskip works so well (is so relaible) I can confidently run comclean, but for others not so.
  • The possibilities are endless!
I see you have Build 51 out too. New toys.... yippee :-)

LOL, yeah, go on publish it sub, I dare you ... hahahahahahahaha

Actually UJB should just write "Ok boys, here's the list, there is NO priority, I'll work on what I feel most suitable, when I get around to it" then he wouldn't get whingies from folks like me hassling him. Big Grin Actually it was a "virtual pout". Can you ask your forums software guys to add an icon for "virtual pout" :-).

subs response does not bode well for this request.....If it is something that requreis API features and they are not there then I won't be doing it.....that would deviate EWA from GBPVR too much.

sub Wrote:Sorry, I probably wont be doing any of these any time soon. Maybe some day though. There maybe plugins that offer these features - I'm not sure though.
