My wife had a bunch of iTunes gift cards she has been using up getting Christmas music. But we want to burn them to a CD in MP3 format to take with us to a Christmas party. Problem is, she doesn't have a CD burner on her computer. If I install iTunes on my machine, can I copy over her music files and burn the to a CD that way or is there a utility you all use to convert them to MP3? Thanks.

I thought there was an "accepted" way around the drm by burning onto a cd, then re-ripping the cd back to MP3 (using cdex or winamp, or even WMP) - effectively removing the DRM.

We don't have itunes here, but if you can burn it to a cd I don't see why you couldn't do that.

Yes, that's the accepted way, but she doesn't have a cd burner on her computer.

I am not sure, as I have never done it, but you need to look at installing itunes on your machine and then authorising your pc to share her library; IIRC you can share a library between 5 machines.

Can't remember the specifics, but the itunes help will walk you through it.

Yes you can. You just have to authorize the other PC for that itunes account. I think there is a limited sharing capability with itunes as well, though I've never used it, where you can authorize a few friends systems so you can share between them. I don't know if they still do that or not but I know that itunes used to be able to do that. All that is in one of the pull down menus at the top of your itunes player. Burning to CD once you've got them on your PC will break the DRM. I wish it was that easy for itunes video content.

I decided I didn't want to install iTunes on my PC so i just pulled my burner and put it in her computer and burned the songs to MP3 CD. Not worth the hassle of installing, authorizing, uninstalling, etc. haha. BTW, she had installed iTunes7 and it doesn't look like the version of Hymn supports it yet. Glad those gift cards are used up, uggg.
