essentially, i get random lockups when watching live tv on my pc. the blue screen of death says "NMI: Parity check / Memory parity error" contact hardware vendor. normally, i would do just that, but the thing is, it only happens when i'm watching tv with gb-pvr. and it always happens. so here's my rig

dell dimension 4700 (intel 915g chipset)
intel pentium 4, 2.8ghz
1 gig dual channel ddr2 4200, by Geil with heatspreaders
powercolor ati theater550 pro tv tuner pcie x1
sapphire radeon x800gto 128mg ddr2, standard speed, pcie x16
Sb audigy 2 value, pci

i also have tried to run the pc with the side panel open in case it was overheating or something. no dice.

gb-pvr is v0.98.13b

all drivers are up to date as well as the os, windows xp pro.

i don't have an error log.

any ideas? thanks in advance.

I'd be inclined to believe the error message, and suspect you've got some flakey memory.

In the last 3 years of GB-PVR's life, I've not had one other report of this error, so I'm pretty sure its not GB-PVR causing it.

Maybe this would help? MS doesn't bring much news on MS knowledge base.

So in sum, it could be conflicting drivers and it could be hardware related. Do a complete re-install of all driver from each companies main driver and not from Dell, so you have their latest effort in driver.

Use Event Viewer in Windows XP. It is a part of OS and run as a service for Windows XP. It is used to make log of hardware and software running on Windows XP. This is also demanded for Catalyst driver and some other hardware to diagnose system failure. It could be good place to look for some clue on your problem and when this message was created.

To open Event Viewer, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer. If you can't find it look for Administrative Tools or activate it in "Taskbar and Start Menu properties" <right click with mouse> - look for "Properties", go to "Costumize Start Menu" (toggle tabs and you will see what to pick). You will find it somewhere and be able to make Administrative Tools show up in Start in the same place as Control Panel which make it more easy to use like defrag or checking event viewer for system maintenance.

If you want to check you memory for fault you should google for the latest memtest86+ version (there is both an .org and .com site and don't remember which will be the best for you system).
