Isn't one problem that the wMVP doesn't support all encrypted wireless transfer types?
I'm not always right

The firmware doesn't support WPA. It does support WEP-128. Not that big of a deal, though something of an irritation. Some Hauppauge CSRs claim that the wMVP does support WPA, even though the released version doesn't. This tells me that WPA is in the works and they haven't gotten their release story together yet.

I think I`ll probably go for a ethernet one, they are alot cheaper than the wireless ones, the ethernet ones cost around £50 and the wireless ones cost £100. The transfer rate should be better and I won`t have any hang ups. Wiring a ethernet cable to the front room shouldn`t be much of a problem.

Is the only difference between wireless and ethernet, the connection method?

Thanks for all the advice

Hi I`ve just ordered 1 from dabs, it came upto £55 delivered,

Everywhere seems to be out of stock at the moment, GBPVR must be really popular Smile , I have to wait 5 days for them to get the stock in. Amazon was a 2 week wait.

If anyone knows anywhere with stock (in the uk) at a simular price tag, can you please let me know and I`ll cancel the order from dabs and order from them.

Thanks

Pete

PS, can wait to get GBPVR on my big telly Big Grin

Hm. I'd see that as a big deal. Not to run my wMVP on WEP (not sure there is much to hack for people out there, but who knows...), but to have to have WPA disabled on my router and my other wireless devices... no thank's Smile That would be a big deal.

Not really. I have about 10 wireless devices so I understand the security provisioning problem. It is a PITA but equivalent to periodically changing your encryption codes.

I know you didn't mention the inevitable "but WEP is less secure!" complaint, which is true, but anybody who relies on encryption as their only wireless security mechanism is begging for trouble. You're much better off considering your wireless LAN no more secure than the Internet. Don't leave your Quicken files sitting around in network shares, run software firewalls, etc..
