I don't really know where to start and whom to ask. I maybe also violates some forum rules by asking a non GB-PVR related question, but I give it a shot.

The problem is that when I enable Dolby Digital and SPDIF in my AC3Filter setup I get great sound out of my soundcard which is driven by the latest Realtek AC97 drivers. Unfortunately, approximately 2 seconds after I stop the movie the whole computer just freezes and a hard reboot is needed.

I have no idea where to start troubleshooting, mostly because my knowledge in digital audio is very low. Some of you might recall my request for another AC3 decoder a couple of days ago, have put probably 20 hours on this problem now.

Any help, hint, cheerful thoughts, links, bans, spams are more than welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Joche

PS. I am gonna crosspost this to the AC3Forum aswell, but it's not as active as this. DS

does your soundcard (im guessing its on the mobo if its ac97) have spdif output?
Whilst there are pleanty of 5 or 6.1 motherboards out there they usually output via 3 analogue audio connectors rather than a single digital spdif.

I have both an optical and coax SPDIF output. The phenomena occurs with both connectors.

Since it freezes, it's usually a problem with some sort of drivers. In this case, the Realtek drivers would high up on my suspects list. Any chance you can get a hold of older drivers to test with? That's what I would try.

For some hygiene reasons in the archive I'm just updating this thread with the following:

I never managed to get my MSI mb with integrated Dolby Digital compatible sound to work full out. I could play real DD stuff when encoded in AC3 when the output of sound was made via SPDIF. Unfortunately that unconditionally freezed the computer as soon as the movie was ended.

When I unchecked the SPDIF option I had dolby prologic sound and a non hanging computer system.

And everyone knows, at least all swedes, that there's no shortcut to the perfect sound, but this annoys me a bit and I will look into it again at another time.

Thanks everyone that tried to help me out on!
