External DVD Player Enclosure

my computer is tucked away behind my TV cabinet (the only place it fits) so I was thinking about buying an external enclosure for my DVD player. I would hook up my internal dvd player in the enclosure and connect it to the computer with a USB cable. Would I be able to receive a good quality picture? What about 5.1 surround sound? Is this possible?

A USB connected DVD-ROM/RW drive behaves the same way a drive installed internally on your PC (IDE). That is of course assuming you have USB2.0 ports available on your computer.

I use a similar setup but only to access xvid's I have archived on DVD-R discs.

I still use a regular DVD player for dvd's.
