Currently have a Hauppauge Colossus 2 PCI-e card installed in my Media PC (in signature) running with NextPVR.

It works well but I'm looking at a new setup and want to go to an external USB capture device for the HDMI input.

Anyone have a good handle on what options I might have? Is the Hauppauge HDPVR2 the right move? Ideally I want to keep the same functionality as the Colossus, but I don't to spend too much $$ if possible. Are there other cheaper options for HDMI capture that work well with NextPVR?
AMD A8-3870K 3.0GHz (onboard ATI HD6550 graphics), 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD + 2TB Hard drives, Hauppauge Colossus 2 (HDMI), Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-S-Plus (DVB-S), Windows 10 64 bit, NPVR 6.1.5, MCE Remote/IR Blaster, IR Server Suite blasting to SKY TV (NZ) OnDemand set top box (Kaon NS1120).

No only Hauppauge according to sub https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...post512085

There are some devices that function as IPTV encoders that may also work, but I haven't found any cheaper plus no blaster.

The HDPVR2 is effectively the same device as a Colossus2, but in external USB format. It's a pretty good device.

This one was suggested on another forum. Would that work with NPVR?

Nope, it would not.

Elgato isn't developer friendly - their devices don't follow Microsoft's standards, and they don't provide API to control the device in 3rd party apps. ie, device works great in their own software, but is poorly supported in any other software.

When it comes to HDMI H.264 encoder devices, you're pretty much going to have to stick to Hauppauge for use in NextPVR. There is a couple of other Roxio and AverMedia devices that work, but I wouldn't recommend either of these over the Hauppauge devices.

I have read that there are no recording devices that allow HDMI input because there are no devices that are high-bandwidth digital content protection(HDCP) compliant. HDPVR-2 notes that it can only accept component video from set-top boxes. I have been looking for an HDCP-stripper with no luck. The situation is very complicated. And illegal.

I've read that this will do what you want but I haven't used one since I wound up getting the HDHomerun.

I also found hardware devices that will remove HDCP protection. Actually, what they're doing is decrypting the stream using a decryption key known at the time the device was built. That key can change yielding the device useless. Caveat emptor!

You may find that NextPVR manages to get around HDCP with a Hauppauge Rocket...
