Which software encoders are you using? You may want to install the Avivo encoders, those seem to be the most preferred. (and also free). It doesn't matter if you have an ATI card or not.
I don't remember the technical explaination, but I seem to remember that the preview "bypasses" the encoders which is why it will display but not record.

Also, check out the sticky thread in Hardware. Here's a link for your convienence. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...e+recorder

flyswatta, I put a post on the "WDM Recorder using Software Compression" forum because I already tried to find something to help me with that in that forum. I didn't read all the posts on that forum but I will try to find out what I should do with that problem. I'm not home for the moment. But as soon I'll get there I 'll try the Avivo encoder!
thank you

I'm not sure but I think I can't use the Avivo plugin with the AIW 7500. Is it true?

Once you installed the encoders, did you then enable the encoders in the capture source?
select your capture source, click edit.
Then in the Recording Source, (it should say "WDM Recording Source"), click settings.
About 1/2 way down the page, it will say Video Encoder, Audio Encoder, and A/V muxer. Select the ATI MPEG Encoder for each.
Click Okay, Okay, and Okay again to restart the recording service. Restart GBPVR after that and it should work.

I had tried the original driver and the last one but I think there is something bizarre happening with that card. I can used it in preview mode but not in recording mode. I always had an error when I want to record. I ran the MMC software from ATI and my software card is working but when I paused I heard the sound live and when I pushed the play button I heard the sound from live and record tv all together. I don't know how to resolve that problem. I think I will have to make a new Windows installation. I'm very frustrated about all that. I put all my spare time to fix all that and got nothing. I had put my log in the "WDM Recorder using Software Compression forum and no one answered. I really don't know what to do!!!!

Sorry - but its for exactly these reasons I usually just tell people to buy a supported hardware encoder card. The software encoder cards are nothing but problems.

Unfortunately the author of that plugin is no longer here, and there are very few people using it successfully, so not alot of people that can provide good advice.
