Hey guys - with the new freeview coming in the next year or so - do you know if you can have a DVBT card to decode the incoming signal via UHF Aerial or do you have to had a Freeview STB to decode it?

cheers

You'll be able to use a DVB-T card, like the UK guys do with their Freeview system. Common cards like the Hauppauge Nova-T etc should do the job just fine.

The DVB-S version of freeview will be launched in about 4 week. The DVB-T variant will be about another year away.

They havnt put up the pages yet, but I think the offical site is http://www.freeviewnz.tv/. Apparently they'll start advertising the launch etc in the next couple of weeks.

I think initially it'll only be TV1, TV2, TV3, C4, Maori TV, and I think I remember hearing about some Dunedin or southland tv? Both TVNZ and Canwest have said they'll add two more channels each in the future. One of TVNZ's will be a 24hr news channel, available before the end of this year. No sign of Prime joining the other FTA channels of Freeview.

I'm fairly sure they'll be widescreen versions of these channels, so that'll be a bonus for people like me with widescreen TVs.

There is enough room for about 18 channels on the currently reserved satellite space

do you think that the 18 channels is for the satelite version only or both ?

I suspect they'll have room for more than 18 channels via DVB-T, but I doubt freeview will ever have that many channels.

Now that the DVB-S portion has officially gone live, are there any particular GB-PVR tuner settings we have to change to get it? ie I am currently using an old sky dish, and a DVB-S card to get FTA TV1 and 2 from the Sky Optus B1 feed - if I rescan the channels for Optus B1/D1 will the new freeview TV3/C4 etc feeds show up, or do I have to change my LNB etc?

cheers,

You should just need to do a rescan, though you may want to select the ' Optus D1 (NZ FTA)' satellite in the BDA settings, since this will scan only the transponders used by Freeview.
