Microsoft receiver

Can anyone tell me if the ir receiver that comes with the microsoft remote can be used with a different remote control to get commands into your PC?

Assuming that remote can emulate the IR signals sent by the the Microsoft remote, then yes.

Would it be possible to use a different remote along with HIP to map the buttons?
