Hi,

As I tend to save up recordings and then watch them one after another, I'm in need of a bigger harddisk. In fact I bought one today. Smile

Now, I can change the path for new recordings, so that they will end up in the right place. No problem there...

I know I can move all my recordings to the new disk, but that would mean the database would be looking at the wrong place for my recordings. So I guess I need to do something to fix the database after the move. But what?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Best regards,

What I did was to use the "export" and "import" buttons in CONFIG to get the XML data file of the recordings. I then edited it to point to the new location.
When GBPVR starts up and doesn't find your moved recordings it will delete them from the database (by default) all you need to do is then use the "import" function to update the database with the new locations.
(makea copy of the database "just in case").

or change the drive letter, there was a topic similar to this recently.

just make sure that you disable the recording service while you are going through the process of changing drive letters. if it starts up and doesnt find your recordings, it will remove them from the database

You could move your "season" shows to the new hard drive, then create a Video Library directory on the directories tab. Then when you want to watch one of your shows go to the Video Library selection in GBPVR instead of Recorded Shows.

This way you don't have to muck with the database or xml files. Smile

Except you lose the EPG descriptions if they go to the video library.

Good Point. I don't really use EPG descriptions - I forgot that I use "RenameRecording" so the files that I put in the video library are more descriptive.

Hi.

Not a fan of plugins, but Video Archive has been my lifesaver for almost the duration of my GBPVR 'career'.

Using VA, I have had up to six different locations for my recordings. I just mirror the directory structure. So my recording directory:

d:\PVR\Recordings

had companions on the other drives:

e:\PVR\Recordings
f:\PVR\Recordings
etc.

So I simply move the underlying recordings from one drive to the other using Explorer (actually Directory Opus, but that's another story). With VA as the frontend for watching recordings, ALL recordings are transparently shown in one list irrespectively of which drive they reside on - WITH DESCRIPTIONS and other information.

Works like a charm, and has never let me down yet...! Big Grin

I even use it for consolidating all the cartoons for my kid. I just drag all the cartoon-directories into a folder called 1-Magnus. This way they don't interfere with my other recordings, and I still have all descriptions intact. Also for the ones in a subdirectory. I even have another subfolder for Movies.

Just a tip - try it...

Brgds,
Niels
