I had some spare time this weekend and had a brilliant (???) idea.
My P-III 700Mhz with has been collecting dust in the closet for quite a while.
I wondered if it had the capability to be a GBPVR front end.

Long story short, after loading Windows XP and GBPVR the system performed flawlessly in overlay mode. I was amazed with the performance even though it only had 256 meg of memory and an ATI video card with a whopping 16 meg of memory.
In VRM9 mode there was a very slight hesitation which I am sure would go away with higher memory.

Not sure that this post will help anyone else. I just wanted to share the experience :p

Long Live GBPVR! Kevin

Kevin,

I also have an older P3-675MHz PC that I am hoping to (someday) configure and use as a client in the bedroom. I am already using my home-office PC as a client to watch TV while working, but that's a much faster PC (Celeron D @ 3.3GHz with 1GB RAM).

Looking at the MediaMVP specs, it looked like the P3-675 could work (atleast in theory) for streaming video in a similar way as the MediaMVP. Plus, adding a DVD drive (and a video card good enough to decode MPEG-2) could give it features that the MediaMVP does not have. So its great to know that you were able to get it working with the P3-750.

Just curious, how do you control it - is it with a keyboard or some sort of remote control (MCE, USB-UIRT, etc)? Also, have you connected it to an SDTV or HDTV - I'm guessing the former (and that's what I will connect it to), but just wanted to confirm.

Thanks,
-Topper

I used a k7-750 with an fx5200 for play back for a while without too many problems.
Menu was a little slugish.
whether I used the keyboard or an MCE remote.

It played most SD content just fine in OVERLAY mode.
The only time it stuttered was when the OSD was on screen.
