but there is a version of the Hauppauge blaster software that lets you learn the codes from your original remote though, so you should be ok.

This is interesting! After searching like mad I've found the version no (blastcfg 2.5.244079) but I can't find the actual file anywhere! It's supposed to have a "Learn" button.

Anyone out there with this version? Would really like to try is as my STB is not listed, but got it working by going thru all the codes. However, certain channels triggers the STB on-screen menu!

I've never used the learning version myself, but others have posted on the forums about it's existence - so it should be out there somewhere...

As you've noticed that's why a lot of us hanging around here for...... (and to learn ofcourse)
As said, Showburner looks like it will fit your needs, TMPGenc. does the trick so will Roxio my DVD, and I believe Nero can do a quick DVD as well, when you've got AVI's try ConvertXtoDVD, I stick to DVDit or ReelDVD (prosumer and pro apps) to give me more control over menu's or DVD Studio Pro when on a Macintosh.
