I have just found this software, and scanned all the threads in the forums, yet didn't see this question answered:  Can I setup GBPVR to serve media in a multi-zone configuration?  To try to simply tell what I would like to accomplish:

1 Television w/spdif 5.1 sound & remote control in room A
1 Computer Monitor w/spdif 5.1 sound & remote control in room B

And the ability to have each room see and control different media simultaneously off the same PVR

If GBPVR can handle 2 rooms doing different things at the same time like I have outlined, what hardware would I need to accomplish this?

Would this work?
2x PX-TV402U Capture/TV cards
2x Remote devices (prefer RF instead of IR, are those available?)
1x PC etc...

Thanks

Check out the Media MVP , its a cheap, good set top box that works with GBPVR.

Does the Help in the program describe how to setup a single instance of GBPVR to serve to multiple locations simultaneously with different media? (I don't have a machine to install it on to test with yet, or I would experiment)

Thanks,

The only way you can currently use GB-PVR in multiple rooms is with the Hauppauge MediaMVP (see their site for details), but this only provides stereo sound.

There is no help installed with the application. This application is a hobby, and I dont like writing documents - so no documents...

Hi
Maybe this is what you are looking for:
D-Link DSM-320 Wireless Media Player
Just like the MVP except in addition it has 802.11g WiFi / component out/ SPDIF out

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=318

http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=141562
(New Zealand retail web site)

I dont know what Sub would have to do to get it working with GB-PVR, though....

Does this box do hardware decoding of the mpeg stream or does it have to be done on the server pc

there is also what appears to be a  fairly simply hardware hack for the mvp to allow it to output both optical and spdif to a suitable amp/decoder
details are on the Linux MVP mod pages at shspvr.com

Nice link... after reading all the toslink and ac3 posts, apparently they still don't have ac3 passthrough working? I believe that this is the 'missing link' for the MVP, the ability to pass through the audio stream from the server directly to a DD/DTS amp. If they can get that working, and it can work with the GBPVR software, I would be more joyful than a swine in feces! That should give me the ability to play my home movies of the family that I authored to DVD in 5.1 surround sound over the MPV Wink

Were you wanting your setup to be able to control the recording, or just for playback of DVD files etc?

If the later then either of these might interest you. They both have digital audio out, but don't break it down to 5.1 themselves.

The Pinnacle Show Center is able to control their cards on the host computer, their cards don't have onboard mpeg encoding though.
If you didn't care about controlling the recording from the remote locations, you could just use any card on the host PC and use it's own software.

It's a real shame they didn't build in component video out and digital audio out on the MVP.
