Resurrecting this thread as it's a good title...

I've been starting my search for a DVB-T card or two. I've seen quite a bit.

Most have BDA drivers, and that means software encoding. I don't really like the idea of that, but that's because I have been spoiled with the Hauppauge PVR150's Hardware encoding...

I haven't been able to find the right information on the Hauppauge Nove-T cards though. I see that they will do all the Oz standards. But does it offer any Hardware encoding at all.

Is it like the HVR-1600 which has Hardware encoding for the anaolg, but BDA for the digital?

Or maybe I should ask you guys, which cards you have and where in Oz I can get them...

I'm in Gold Coast, could maybe drive to Brisbane
Rather not buy online, (like 'pickup now, take back if not happy' thing)
I don't have PCI-e, and would rather not have a USB2 dongle.

But then I won't mind going with anything that I can, in the end, count on...

BTW is this a good place to say the TV Guide stuff really sucks in OZ! (I'm getting guide data - now if only the networks stick to the sched, I'll be fine...) Big Grin

Any thoughts about this?

And is this the same what's listed in the config|Capture Source: DNTV Live! Tint USB2 BDA?

zehd, digital broadcasts don't need to have software or hardware encoding since they are alread "digital", gbpvr receives mpeg streams directly from the supported BDA source.

My understanding of this is that hardware encoding is critical on analogue cards, but not relevant to digital as the signal is already digitally encoded - it just needs to be mulitplexed from the transport stream into something more friendly (mpg).

I can record three channels together, and watching recorded file without any major CPU drain - evenly on my lowly celeron2.5!
Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: [SIZE=2][SIZE=1]Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

Is probably the cheapest in OZ, you will have to drive to their Brisbane store.

I'd probably look at the cards in their pricelist and work out which one is (best) supported by GB-PVR.

THanks guys... I see in wannabepvr's subtext what he's using... What are you using?

These seem like good deals. But I'm worried about some of them not being in the gb-pvr config list... Worried about good drivers and manufacturer presence
