I wrote this as I went along and came to my own conclusion but I've left the thought process here in its entirety for your amusement. For the conclusion, skip to the last line...

I wasn't entirely sure how to title this thread properly and I'm not having luck searching for similar threads because I don't know which keywords to use.

The issue (it's more an issue than a problem because everything works fine) is that updating the epguide creates files that are exactly 1 minute and 1 second long.

For the past two days:

gbepg-TC48,690000,0,0,8.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC48,690000,0,0,8-1.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC48,690000,0,0,8-1-2.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC48,690000,0,0,8-1-2-3.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC53,729834,0,0,8.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC53,729834,0,0,8-1.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC53,729834,0,0,8-1-2.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC53,729834,0,0,8-1-2-3.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC55,746166,0,0,8.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC55,746166,0,0,8-1.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC55,746166,0,0,8-1-2.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC55,746166,0,0,8-1-2-3.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC59,778166,0,0,8.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC59,778166,0,0,8-1.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC59,778166,0,0,8-1-2.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC59,778166,0,0,8-1-2-3.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC62,802166,0,0,8.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC62,802166,0,0,8-1.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC62,802166,0,0,8-1-2.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC62,802166,0,0,8-1-2-3.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC65,826166,0,0,8.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC65,826166,0,0,8-1.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC65,826166,0,0,8-1-2.dvr-ms
gbepg-TC65,826166,0,0,8-1-2-3.dvr-ms

I never had this happen in either XP x86/x64. Now I'm using Vista x64 but not sure if that's related. This has been a clean install of GB-PVR and is only a few days old. The epguide updates fine, the guide contains up and coming shows and I can schedule to record with no problems.

I'm just curious why it creates these files - 12 per day/update. I'll delete them but if they keep being created I'll have to always remember to check the save directory each day or so.

Interestings, I found this in one of my logs:

2007-10-13 06:16:41.811 VERBOSE [8] Deleting temp file: C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\gbepg-TC48,690000,0,0,8.mpg

This log was while I was recording in MPEG. Since I've been testing stability of DVR-MS rather than recording in MPEG, I wonder if GB-PVR isn't able to delete this format for one reason or another. I've always recorded in MPEG before but now I'm using DVR-MS I'm noticing this happen.

Rather than re-edit the whole post, further checking in the latest log from today shows:

2007-10-14 06:12:52.290 VERBOSE [8] Deleting temp file: C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\gbepg-TC48,690000,0,0,8.mpg

This log suggests GB-PVR is trying to delete these epguide update files expecting them to have .MPG extensions. It seems that the epguide update process needs to match the save format.

Yeah, these .dvrms files being left behind is a known problem and fixed for the next release.

Good to know. As I said, I didn't know what to search for and after a few attempts I just went ahead and made the thread.

I came looking for an answer to the same occurrence; do I take it the bug still lives?

Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Hauppauge Nova-T PCI card, GB-PVR 1.15.

On the positive side, I cannot get Vista Media Center to work with this card; no problem whatsoever with GB-PVR. Smile

GB-PVR 1.2.9 that was released a couple of days ago corrected the problem.

Apologies, I thought my 1.1.5 version was released after Josef_K's postings.
