power dvd may be using overlay rather than direct3d so it is less resouce hungry
you could try different decoders but im sure you probably already have i found the power dvd decoder not to work so well in gbpvr even though i still reckon power dvd is the best thing for playing back dvds

I have tried many decoders (video and audio) and PowerDVD gives the best picture quality as well the least amount of stutters. I'll confirm whether or not PowerDVD is using Overlay but I'm pretty sure I set it to use VMR9. With my system specs, I should have no issues running VMR9 for SD.

FYI, I did run the registry patch for PowerDVD6 in order to use the hardware decoder.
