So I set up the web server and it was working fine for streaming on the computer GBPVR was running on. I then tried to run it on my laptop and whenever I tried to stream video I got this error in VLC:

Unable to open 'http://localhost:7648'

Now I am getting the same error on both computers! I tried following the directions to install the new web server here - but I am still having the same problem. Any ideas?

When you say you tried to run it on your laptop....what exactly did you do.....it sounds as though you installed something on your laptop.....

If streaming was working on the gbpvr server you should have been able to get to ewa that runs on that server by using http://lan-ip-address:7647/gbpvr/ or http://machine-name:7647/gbpvr/

If it is no longer coming up when you are running on the gbpvr server using the http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/ address then try restarting the gbpvrrecording service and verify that the web admin is enabled in the gbpvr config.

To get to ewa on the gbpvr server you will need to make sure that the windows firewall (or other firewall software you may have on the gbpvr host machine) had ports 7647 and 7648 open for TCP traffic. Otherwise you will not get anything on a remote PC.

Thanks for the response!

I do have the ports open, using the right URL and I was able to access the EWA on my laptop. I could see the TV guide and everything, I only get an error when I try to open the stream in VLC. WMP doesn't work either.

the thing that is weird was that the streaming worked on my main computer, but now it doesn't. I have the same symptoms - I can open the EWA and see everything, but when I open the stream in VLC I get that error.

Try reinstalling VLC on both the gbpvr machine and your laptop....that sometimes can correct things. Check the stream settings in the config tab of ewa and make sure that things are still set to stream......some people have lost those settings and if they are not set then you will not be able to stream.

So it still doesn't work. How can i reset it back to the defaults without reinstalling? I tried clicking reset in config and I deleted everything in the gbpvr\web folder except bin. It recreated all the files, but still doesn't work. I tried reinstalling VLC as well.

Success! So I deleted the whole web directory and it works now. Now I'll try it on my other computer.

Errrrr, I spoke to soon. It is doing the same thing again. It looks like it is crashing the Recording service, since it disappears from the list of processes. If I hit "restart recording service" it will appear in processes but then crash again. The only way to get it going again is to reboot.

Ok....I looked at the log you posted at the top of the thread and I see the following error:

Code:
Unexpected error in stream connection listener: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted
   at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoBind(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress)
   at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Bind(EndPoint localEP)
   at GBPVR.RecordingService.x604c5275de444acd.xcba1f05fb5a46d5f()
The only time I see this is if I update something in the web directory and I have not stopped the gbpvrrecordingservice first. This is a must or it will crash the service and leave a socket hanging open and it can take anywhere from a minute to an hour to correct itself....I most often end up rebooting to clear it.

That said.......do the following:
  • Stop GBPVR recording service
  • Delete all files that are in the gbpvr\web directory except for the bin directory
  • Delete the following files from the bin directory:
    • AjaxPro.2.dll
    • eWorld.UI.dll (if using the build I just released tonight)
    • RSS.dll
    • RSS.NET.dll
    • RSS.pdb

  • Download the current release of EWA
  • Unzip to the gbpvr directory using the directory names in the zip file so everything will go into gbpvr\web
  • Delete the gbpvr\config-web.xml file (this will force ewa to rebaseline all of your settings)
  • restart the gbpvr recording service
Now.....
  • Access EWA at the http://your-pc:7647/gbpvr/ location
  • Access the config tab
  • Ensure that your VLC locations look similar to below.....
    • C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\Vlc\ notice the \ at the end of the location...this can be a gotcha sometimes

  • Set streaming to use an external player....the browser plugins are buggy at best.
Now...
  • Go into your video library or Manage Recordings and click on stream that is next to a video/programme.
  • Set the stream settings you would like to use (posted my favorite video settings below)
  • Make sure to click update to save your changes.
  • Close the window
Now...
  • Go into your music library and click on stream next to a song
  • Set the stream settings you would like to use (posted my favorite audio settings below)
  • Make sure to click on Update to save your changes.
  • Close the window
You have now reset your settings for EWA and the settings for Video as well as Audio streaming (there are two profiles....one for video and one for audio).

Now (on the gbpvr server machine) click on stream next to a song.....launch your external player (VLC is recommended). You should be receiving the stream.

Now (on a remote machine) access http://gbpvr-host-pc:7647/gbpvr/ and go to the music library....click on stream and then launch external player....again you should be seeing or hearing the stream....

If the recording service craps the bed again you can find the ewa logs buried in one of the subdirectories in this chain on your PC....find the sub directory with the gbpvrpublic.dll file in it and you should see a sub folder underneath it called Logs.....zip them up and post them here.
