Greetings

I had gbpvr setup before with a SDTV and playback of recorded shows, dvd's and downloaded material just fine. But now I have a HDTV (50" Samsung T5034) and PQ is not good. First livetv is studdering/jittery so I am first trying to playback downloaded material. It is not studdering/jittery but the PQ is not like it was before. It's blocky I guess is the best term. Not the entire picture but parts of some scenes.

So I'm here asking for help.

I have an Opteron 165 with a 6800GS output through Svideo to the tv.

What are the considerations or things I need to address with output to a HDTV as compared to SDTV ?

"Downloaded material" being small .avi TV shows and the like? First guess is if you had a smaller TV before then going to a 50" will of course show flaws much easier. It's also not uncommon for an HDTV to have a worse picture with analog signals if you have any of those (PVR150?). An HDTV also just plain shows the good and the bad of a video more than a non-HDTV.

I had a stuttering problem and the fix was (can't remember exactly) turning off anti-aliasing on the video card, (don't ask me why, but it helped), so feel free to turn off ALL the display extras in the video card settings while experimenting, and I also had a weird thing going on with PowerDVD. Its built-in deinterlacing box was checked, I unchecked it, and things worked better, even though I wasn't using it as a player. I'm thinking PowerDVD was trying to deinterlace things while the video card was also trying to deinterlace things. Your TV can also deinterlace, so maybe something is double-deinterlacing in some way.

And if you didn't know, svideo doesn't have the bandwidth to transfer HDTV. Need component or better.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Great information you have and I will check out those settings.

It dawned on me reading your post that I said the wrong connection. I have component from oc to hdtv, so good there. The downloaded material I get says that it's hdtv. But they are so squashed that I doubt that they are of good enough quality for a HDTV.

I'll check the settings and post back.

Thanks

I've looked for the settings and only found it in the nvideo settings to turn off. I've played with some other settings within gbpvr but no good Sad

One thing I've remembered is the starting of gbvrp/pvrx2. I have been starting it through the taskbar but thought I would try "pvrx2", pvrc2 -FSE" and "gbpvr" but oddly each of those were worse. In fact "gbpvr" from the command line would not respond to the keyboard, mouse or remote, hate to reboot system.

I'm still curious to hear what size TV you had before the HDTV 50". My friend has a nice 65" CRT HDTV, and it's great with good sources, but with iffy DVDs or TV shows letters can have mosquito noise around them and motion can get very pixelated. Downloaded avi TV shows are even worse. The TV is just too darn big for video from non-great sources.

I mention this because you said, "It's blocky I guess is the best term. Not the entire picture but parts of some scenes." If you said motion has some ghosting, I'd blame deinterlacing, but if it's pixelation but only on certain parts, (action parts, presumably), maybe it's just a too-bad source with a too-big TV.

Easiest guess for live tv stuttering is your decoder choice in config. I've had good luck with various decoders, not so good luck with a few, but have never had trouble with Gabest MPV for video. I generally use FFdshow for audio, but it seems like pretty much any audio decoder works fine.

I do however have some weird audio problem where recorded shows only play non-jittery if I manually switch to audio track 2. Even after a complete reformat it does it. Still baffled on that one. But, doesn't sound like that's your problem.
