Hi
I'm very new to both GBPVR and the mvpmc dongle, I am trying to let GBPVR see & stream files on another PC on my network. I try to load the following in my dongle.bin.config file (which is in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Dongle\mvpmc) but no dice, the "asus_files" folder isn't created. But mvpmc takes a very long time to load. I have tried the IP address and the computer name.
Code:
mkdir /asus_files;
mount.cifs //192.168.1.105/finished /asus_files/ -o user=Rory,password=mypass,rsize=34000;
I also tried telnetting to the MVP from my server machine and entering the commands above, which works. The directory appears in the File menu. I also tried ls -lt /etc/dongle.config which replied with
-rw---- 1 root root Dec 31 18:06 /etc/dongle.config
so there is something wrong with the filename, or the location of the dongle.bin.config file ? Or GBPVR isn't loading the config file ? I have changed the name of the mvpmc dongle to dongle.bin and selected it via the MVP config menu.

Wired network, XP Firewall is on (GBPVR exception), DHCP server on (on the router), the server and client both request static IP from the router, I telnetted into the MVP and the server IP is there.

Despite my teething troubles (mostly network related) WOL worked "out of the box" which is fantastic. It wakes my PC from S3 sleep. I had already set up my computer using Exoid's guide (unfortunately seems to be down)

Are you trying to play the files in mvpmc's native mode or through emulation mode?

Yah, sounds like you are trying to use the wrong config file. The dongle config file has no impact on what GBPVR does. If you want to play the music on your MVP using the the GBPVR interface, then you need to tell GBPVR about the folder, not the MVP dongle.

Open the GBPVR config app and add your "//192.168.1.105/finished" to the list of music folders.

Hi Martin, great work, and thanks for your help
what I am trying to avoid is running GBPVR from a passworded User account rather than a local account. I share the server PC with my family and I am assuming that the only way they could use the PC while the TV was being watched is to keep the admin (me) always logged on. I was also concerned that I'd have to enter a password if I was to wake the PC from MVP if I set up GBPVR from a passworded account (not sure of this)
Basically I wanted to see what the native mvpmc playback of avis and mpegs (via vlc streaming) was like before I started trying to reconfigure GBPVR (which is working great). While we're at it, Smile if anyone has any tips on how to get VLC to stream... I have added the telnet interface but not played around with the Network dialog... nothing is streaming yet.. presumably some firewall tweaks are required...

If you run commands from telnet but they don't start from the config file, then my bet is is either your config file isn't loading at all or there is a syntax error in it.

For vlc the easiest firewall rule is to open it up for tcpip from your private LAN. Your problem could be the mvpmc and vlc filename must be the same which could be difficult from a share unless vlc was on the share.

Finally you should be able to run GBPVR services as a named user without being logged on.

Could you give me some idea why it wouldn't load ? The syntax is as above. I would like the config to work whether I access the other PC via mvpmc or GBPVR - so I can jump straight into emulation mode.

Two things

1. Are you sure you really have an mvpmc share set up? Telnet to the mvp and issue the command ls /etc/mvpmc and if you don't see dongle.bin.config you have not. There's a log of threads on setting up the share.

2. If the config file is there zip it up and I will have a look (change any passwords in the file please).

thankyou of course you are correct, once it works it is so easy to see where you were going wrong ! I didn't understand that you had to actively set permissions and share the mvpmc folder. Of course it is written in large letters all over the loadconfig section of the wiki... but sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees... Big Grin
I have both shares working.. via GBPVR and MVPMC.. emulation mode works via the dongle.config .. I'm off to try VLC..
thankyou thankyou
