Have just run the network cable for my new MVP. I have got it working with GBPVR by disabling the Hauppauge services on the PC. I got communication between the PC and the MVP and the remote control lets me navigate round the menus. So far so good.

I tried to playback a recording I had made using GBPVR last week (which plays back fine on the PC). It started OK but then, after less than a minute, the picture froze and the MVP locked up. It would not respond to any remote controls. I had to pull the power plug to get it back. Tried again and it happened again in a slightly different place. Complete lockup.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Could you post your logs. It could be several things but the most common for new users with these symptoms are that you have not blocked PVR2X.exe incoming tcpip connections on your firewall.

I needed to turn on "Configure this machine to act as a client" in the Capture Sources tab. In my defence, I would say that when trying to troubleshoot an MVP, looking at "Capture Sources" is not where I'd look first Big Grin.

Could someone explain the difference between the using "Streaming" or "File Sharing" choices in this context. Does one include the other or are they mutually exclusive?

Those settings aren't used for the mvp, but perhaps behind the scene the client sets up the firewall properly.

For reference I'm not using PVRX2 and I don't have any firewall.

That's why it is best to upload logs. Note that the PVRX2 mvp server that is the default in GBPVR 1.1.5 is much better than the old server you really should try it.

Those settings , in both paragraphs are for setting up the client PC that is connected to a main GBpvr server. I would have though that the first setting would have stopped the normal operation of a gbpvr server.

In fact with 'configure this machine as a client' my sources disappear

I don't have a video card which supports VMR9 so I can't try PVRX2 even if I wanted to.

GBPVR 1.1.5  what's that?

I guess you missed sub's 40,000th post

You can use pvrx2 for as an mvp server and still (for now) use gbpvr on your PC. tick tick tick

Are you saying that the MVP should playback recordings with the "Configure this machine to act as a client" box unchecked?

Well, it didn't and now it does. What can I say?
