I'll let the technical of the group explain the differences but if you have a relatively updated system, PVRX2 is the way to go. I've had only a few minor problems that have been solved with forum help and have a much faster program (works great for me in Vista or XP). The GUI is updated and I believe the use of Direct3D has improved picture quality.
If you have a Hauppauge 350 tuner card or an older machine, PVRX2 may not be for you.

gbpvr is the old interface and support for it will probably be withdrawn in 2008 (thought this is a complete guess. Sub has not actually said this).
as Pastro said, pvrx2 is the new interface and uses direct3d to draw. This means that menus and possibly TV look better and also scale properly on high res screens.
Many of the latest plugins are only written for pvrx2.
You do need a reasonably decent graphics card for pvrx2, nothing mad but definitely not the graphics build onto an old motherboard.

I'm tossing up on this myself - there's a couple of quirks in PVRX2 that are a nuisance - CTRl-B doesn't display the OSD in LiveTV and the Miniguide doesn't auto hide. I'm sure they'll be fixed in the next release though.
