I've seen several people offer suggestions of using FFMPEG to provide various formats to MVPs on the fly. I would love to dig in and figure out all the ins and outs, but I just can't seem to find the time.

So, I put it out to the community, could we put together a guide to get FFMPEG set up to provide what we need? Like, if we backed up a Home video DVD and wanted to stream it to the MVP. (Or other DVD that would be legal to do this with) what would be the steps?

Also, some have posted that VLC can do this sort of stuff, for things like web videos/streams, again, could this information be collected into one place?

If it is, and I missed it, I'm sorry.

That's deep, very deep. Doesn't talk about integration with PVRX2. And could be over the top for some of the folks who want more of an 'out-of-the-box' setup for PVRX2. Yes, I know that PVRX2 isn't quite 'out-of-the-box' ready yet, but seems to be the direction it's heading.

With the default setting, I think ffmpeg is integrated quite well for the average user. The only weakness is that HD mpeg-ts files aren't transcoded to SD resolution however it leaves the quality of the SD mpeg-ts files alone. For most people streaming transcoded HD to their MVP will be more pain then it is worth.

GULP! This was exactly what I was going to attempt to do next, since I upgraded my hardware. I might have to drop that one back a little on the list.
