I am pretty new to PVR apps in general. GBPVR is the first one I stumbled upon a few weeks ago after buying a nova-t500 for my XP desktop.

The functionality is brilliant, and I’m sure I’m only just getting started, but the picture quality is rubbish on everything. (I.e. recordings, media files, DVD’s). Sound is fine however. By rubbish quality I mean: Weak colour, obvious compression graininess (anything without much light looks hideous).

Everything I normally watch (i.e. media files, DVD’s, HD stuff) is run in overlay mode to my HDTV through digital component video and looks great. (I think the overlay mode is being handled by ATI control centre). I recently noticed that if I run the recorded files in Media player classic on overlay mode (my usual) the picture is perfect.

Well having read up about poor quality I know I have to set GBPVR to the same video renderer as the stuff that works. Problem is there’s no overlay option for PVRX2.exe and GBPVR.exe doesn’t seem to respond to the config app.

What can I do??

Thanks a lot

If you need to use the Overlay renderer then sticking with the old GBPVR.exe app.

alright thanks for the reply.

I can't get GBPVR.exe to "start on second monitor". when i run it in windowed mode and drag it up it goes back to looking bad and grainy.

Thanks

I think it expects the TV to be the right of the monitor in a two screen setup. (this is the default in windows when you add a second monitor)

try turning down all the 3d settings on video card
or a different video driver can help aswell

these setting only apply if you still want to try pvrx2.exe

Thanks again.

Setting the second monitor to the right did make it open on the tv. Unfortunatly however it's no better, and in fact the tuner seems to take longer to initialise and the OSD causes the picture to 'sparkle' with little white dots.

I have tried all the combinations of MPEG decoder and am currently using the intervideo one. i have tried to disable the 3D on the second monitor only but it doesn't look like i can. (still working on this).
