After working fine for many months, a dvd player(Philips DVP3960) connected to an lcd tv(Magnavox 42MF531D/37) with an hdmi cable has developed the following symptoms: it will play for about 20 seconds, then the screen turns to static and the sound mutes. If you disconnect the hdmi cable at the dvd player, then plug it back in, the static is still there. If you disconnect the tv end of the hdmi cable, then plug it back in, the video and sound return for about 20 seconds, then a message pops up saying "non-hdcp compliant display", then the picture turns to static.
Does this sound like a cable/connector problem? I can't think why it should have gone bad, because it hasn't been moved or jiggled or stressed in any way, prior to my connecting and disconnecting it for troubleshooting purposes, as mentioned above.
I have since disconnected the hdmi cable entirely, and am using a component cable instead, which is working just fine. However, since the hdmi cable cost nearly as much as the dvd player, it is frustrating not to be able to use it!
