I am in the process of upgrading from 0.99.12 to 1.2.9. I had the old version running with ContourHC. On the MVP with the Skin plugin I was able to get all the submenu's right. Unfortunately I can not get the main menu in the old format. I had 5 or 6 options to choose from, but Contour was not in that list. I do get ContourHC buttons, but otherwise no resemblance.
Is there something wrong with my installation, or is it not yet implemented? If it is the latter, is there something I can do myself about it?

I used ContourHC skin (not CS) previously, but upon upgrading to PVRx2 I switched to CS3. I tried to get a "Contour" theme, but couldn't get it to my liking. I started playing (way too much) with all the themes and choices available and now have a custom theme I like, derived from the blue Sassari.

Doesn't really answer your question, but I'm sure you can create a theme you will like with CS3.
What, me worry?

I know, but I guess that is a little bit beyond my skills, and the time I have available. I really hate the present rolodex-like main menus. If there is no simple solution I'll revert back to 0.99.12

The main menus under PVRX2 do not have as much flexibility as the older ones under GBPVR.exe

ContourHC is on of those that suffers due to this. The latest version of GBPVR will allow me to have more buttons and adjust the spacing, but it still will have the enlarging middle button.

I really need to tweak the few themes there are in PVRX2 to the latest abilities.

Thanks for the quick reply. Don't bother for me. I guess it will take a while before the old flexibility is back (if at all). As the rolodex, which I really dislike, apparantly is the only UI model, I will revert to 0.99.12.

You could try setting the "scrollDuration" to zero in the menu skin xml :

Code:
<Placement name="MenuButtonOrigin" loc="20,27" [color=Red]scrollDuration="[/color]0.35" itemCount="5" withInsetX="20" offset="9" rightShift="true" alpha="220"/>

I'll be honest I can't remember exactly how the GBpvr menu looked, but setting the "scrollDuration" to zero effectively removes the "rolodex-like main menus"

Thank you for pointing me to this.
In my view this does not change the model from moving the menu over the focus to moving the focus in the menu.
Back in the early '90s there has been quite a bit of research by Xerox Palo Alto and other institutions on these 'rolodex' interfaces. The conclusion was that this paradigm did not improve usability.

Yeah it was the only thing I could think of, as Fatman_do said the main menu is quite hard coded. You can see from the code above that the alter options are limited.

It must be a nightmare for sub to walk the tight rope of pleasing everyone aesthetically though, a task I do not envy Smile I'm on the other end of the spectrum I'd love to animate everything Big Grin

It is also a nightmare to people like Fatman_do and friends who have done a terrific job on creating the community skin. CS has allowed many users to set the interface to their likings, while at the same time reducing the workload of maintaining the variety. I guess the workload on the 'fathers of CS' has increased quite a bit. Overall it made things more diverse but yet consistent. That is quite a contribution!

I think it would be a shame if the flexibility at the main menu level would not return in the near future. We would be loosing many well designed user interfaces of GBPVR.

In the meantime I can live quite well with the old GBPVR.
