Hi. I'm currently using the HVR3000 for DVB-S and thinking of getting the Nova-T 500 HD to receive the new NZ Freeview HD. I've read the posts on this card but they don't seem to answer some questions I still have:-

Do you know if it comes with the proper H.264 decoder to use in GBPVR or do I need to get it from somewhere else?

Also there is talk of encrypting some Freeview HD content. (HDCP?) If that happens, will I be still able to record the shows in GBPVR like I do now or only view them on LiveTV?

No it doesnt. You'll need to get it from elsewhere.

I'm 99.9% sure it'll mean nothing to GB-PVR, and you'll just be able to record everything. The system isnt live yet though, so we cant be 100% sure yet.

If you're wanting to try DVB-T, you can try it with your HVR3000.

Thanks sub. 2 quick questions

Hauppauge website only mentions support for mpeg2 streams. Am I correct that the DVB-T card doesn't care if it's a mpeg4 or mpeg2 stream anyway?

Also will I be able to get Freeview HD using my HVR3000 since it doesn't specifically say it supports HD like your HVR4000?

The card doesnt care if the stream contains mpeg2 or mpeg4 - its just a stream of bits to the card.

Just a couple of explanations of these

I am fairly sure that when they say the card is MPEG2 only they are just meaning their software can only handle that. Use something that handles MPEG4, like GB-PVR and the card doesn't know any different

The reason the HVR4000 claims HD whereas the HVR3000 doesnt refers to DVB-S2 (HD over Satellite). This allows them to call it a quad-tuner (Analogue, DVB-T, DVB-S & DVB-S2) therefore 4000 as opposed to the HVR3000 which is a tri-tuner (no DVB-S2).

The answers are still the same just giving the explanation.
