When I switch channels I experience a huge (more than 5 seconds) delay. It's almost TOO boring trying to switch channels, or making the mistake to press up/down more than once (because as GBPVR buffers the keypresses, you may be facing 30 secongs of stupid channel switching). Definately negative for the "wife factor".

I always use timeshifting (as I was pause TV).

NO other PVR program I've used had this huge delay. GotTV, CTPVR, MeedioTV all switch fast (in fact MeedioTV switches as fast as a real TV), so it's not something with the hardware.

I've even noticed a change in behavior between my previous version (0227) and the current (02313). 0227 froze the second I pressed up/down and then (after a few seconds) switched to the other channel (so because of the freezing at least you knew you DID press the key) while 02313 continues playing the current channel and after a few seconds the actual switch takes place (this has the negative that you are not sure if the program got the key press but the positive that AT LEAST you view TV up to when the change happens).

More data:
- P4/2.7/512MB HT
- WinXP Pro SP2
- Girder
- Hauppauge PVR350
- ATI Radeon 9700Pro
- Latest or almost latest Hauppauge drivers (up to a few weeks ago)
- Latest or almost latest ATI drivers (again looked 2-3 weeks ago)

Help... I really prefer GBPVR than MeedioTV (MeedioTV has a looooong way to go) and this HUGE delay is a deal breaker.

(I am posting one more post with other minor issues)

It takes about two seconds to change channels on my machine, which is about is low as I expect it'll ever be, but a few people have said its taking a long time for them so I am investigating.

You mention keyboard buffering. Why dont you just press the channel number and press enter?

Are you using the tv out on the PVR350?

no it's definately nowhere near 2 seconds in my machine EVEN using channel number... I just measured it:

takes 11 seconds when I select Live TV (!!!Wink
takes 9 seconds for each channel change (either with channel number or channel up/down)

btw (some more info)
- in the first case (when I initialy open Live TV), screen turns black almost immediately and then after 10+ seconds I get picture
- in the case of channel switching, current channel continues playing (like I never pressed the button!Wink and then after 9 seconds it switches!

- I have small delays in the config: MVP LiveTV pre-play delay 300ms, number of servers to autostart 0 (what is this?), skip control fw skip 60 seconds, back 30, live tv pre-play delay 150ms...

it's irrelevant to Girder or anything as same happens from keyboard

and I don't use the channel number method because sometimes you just want to browse the channels (tv zapping - which of course has a new meaning when channel changes every 9+ seconds! hehehe)

after all you may remember that I don't like the number + ENTER method (pressing one more button than I need) too much (I'd prefer a number + timeout method like normal TV... just enough time -or even configurable- to allow for the use to enter 1, 2 or 3 digits... it should be very easy to implement this IF you wanted, please don't be too negative about this)

As I said earlier 'a few people have said its taking a long time for them so I am investigating.'

Remember, this isn't my day job so I've only got limited hours I can spend on it. There were big changes to live tv in the last release. These changes were like two steps forward, one step backwards. Dont worry, channel change speed will improve in later releases.

If you set the "ChannelChangeWithoutEnterKey" setting to "true" in the config.xml file it'll automatically change channels without having to press enter.

If you dont like they this works, dont even bother to tell me. In case you havn't guessed I'm getting sick of answering peoples questions. The few dollars I get through donations just isn't worth this hassle.

Sub relax. :-D

Nobody pushed you to fix things "right now" or anything. I just mention the facts. Don't you want that? (well now that I read your second post, no you don't)

OK, I'll try the xml thing. I guess there is some delay or something right?

Sorry to bother you (!Wink, I am trying to be polite here, so please don't be rude (this is unrelated to GBPVR).

Keep up the good work (if you think you want to do it - because you seem unsure).
