I have read here and there that when you schedule a recording, GBPVR also tells windows to schedule a wake up. I am assuming this means I can put my PC into sleep, and then the machine will wake up to record the program.

Is the above true? If so how does it actually work as I have not had any success. How does GBPVR tell windows when to schedule a wake up? And do you have to put the machine to sleep via GBPVR, or is it ok to simply press the sleep button on my MCE Remote?

Short answer is yes machine should wake up when recording due to start if put in standby but seems some people may have issues depending on hardware etc.

I use it and it works fine (after a fresh windows install).
An application just tells windows when to wake up and "it just does". One of gbpvr's logs has a list of wakeup times and it can be a big list.
I suspect windows just puts the first date/time into the clock chip and this hardware is what wakes the machine up.
I've used both S3 standby and hibernate when just about everything is powered off and it works fine.

YMMV of course.

Sometimes it seems like half of the posts in the support forum have to do with machines not waking from standby properly.

Personally, I don't think the tiny bit of electricity saved is worth all the trouble or possible missed recordings.

Then again, here in Quebec, I pay about $40.00 a month for electricity. If I lived in California I may feel differently Big Grin

Overhere in the Netherlands that would be ~22 Euro-cts/kwh that's over $0,30.
With "motherboard issue" you mean there is no setting for automatic restart after power failure?
