"but we found that this actually disadvantaged the NVIDIA part due to the fact that its drivers have noise reduction turned off by default while ATI enable this functionality by default."

Meanwhile, a large number of ATI users complain about the built-in noise reduction causing ghosting so bad their kids even point it out, and so they go to forums looking for advice on how to turn it off and say the picture looks much better without it.

I think it was TechPowerup that did a "which has better image quality" poll recently, and ATI won by a large amount. Gaming was included and not just video, though. Colors were generally the most noted difference. From what I see, colors weren't part of any of the above tests.

I'm using a 2900 and an 8500 right now, different monitors but the same model, and as far as that setup goes the 2900 has noticeably "better" colors. I can turn up the colors on the 8500 to match the punch of the 2900, but it seems to have a lower ceiling for when the colors start to bleed and look over-saturated.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

I noticed they used an 8800, does the 9000 series from Nvidia do better on color? Also does it close the gap at all for CPU usage when playing bluray DVDs?

Hi!

Thought I'd jump in and ask a quick question. I just bought a new Nvidia GeForce 6200 AGP 256MB card, and want to run the Purevision decoder. Should those have been included on the install disk, or do you have to pay for and download/install those separately?

Thx!

The Purevideo decoder used to be a separate product that you had to pay for...you could get it online from Nvidia...but I think they've stopped selling it because its functionality is supposedly included in the latest driver packages. Then again, the 6200 was only partially supported by Purevideo so I don't know what the situation with it is now.
