My six-year old today told me that the "box" (i.e., MVP) has funny audio. Some of his cartoons, an assortment of xvid and divx conversions of dvds, are suddenly playing back oddly: the video on the mvp is playing normally, but the audio is playing back at a high speed.

nothing has changed wrt the mvp, since installing gbpvr 1.2.9. i've not even patched any other apps or system on xp. a video (divx) that played fine a couple of days ago is exibiting the same phenomenon. not all converted videos are affected. (just went upstairs and randomly picked about 10 videos, and three played improperly. i know the've all been watched before on the mvp.)

the affected videos play fine on the gbpvr server. i am using mvpmc 0.3.4 dongle.

i've quickly searched the forums and do not see anyone with this odd experience.

thoughts?

thanks,
greg

The first thing I would try is re-booting the MVP from the main menu to force it reload the dongle. It sounds like the hardware needs a reset which the green button doesn't always do.

i just tried your suggestion: unplugged the mvp for a couple of hours and plugged it back in. same thing with the same videos. the same videos play fine on the htpc/gbpvr/server, but have highspeed audio when played on the mediamvp. perhaps I'll try the original hauppauge dongle next.

perplexed.....

Can you make a sample available somehow? I will have a look with mvpmc.

i tried it with the original dongle. same result. files play well through gbpvr on the server, but abnormally on the mvp.

thanks for the offer:
i put a 1.7MB segment up on my ftp server (ftp.kimnach.org, user:anonymous@kimnach.org and pass: anonymous).

I am downloading it now but it is being reported as 1.7 GB, so I stopped after 200MB and it is full of errors on vlc and virtual dub.

Here is the format of what you uploaded

Code:
Complete name                    : C:\movies\short.avi
Format                           : AVI
Format/Info                      : Audio Video Interleave
File size                        : 188 MiB
Duration                         : 1mn 19s
Overal bit rate                  : 19.9 Mbps
Writing library                  : VirtualDub build 28346/release

Video
Format                           : RGB
Codec ID                         : RGB
Codec ID/Info                    : Uncompressed RGB32
Duration                         : 1mn 19s
Bit rate                         : 18.9 Mbps
Width                            : 656 pixels
Height                           : 480 pixels
Display aspect ratio             : 4/3
Frame rate                       : 23.976 fps
Resolution                       : 24 bits

Audio
Format                           : AC-3
Format/Info                      : Audio Coding 3
Codec ID                         : 2000
Duration                         : 1mn 19s
Bit rate mode                    : CBR
Bit rate                         : 192 Kbps
Channel(s)                       : 1 channel
Channel positions                : C
Sampling rate                    : 48.0 KHz

If your source file is mono AC3 that transcoding might be your problem. I'm also not used to seeing raw video.

thanks for looking into this, martin. i don't know why it shows ar "raw" video, since i picked one of two files in the cartoons directory. (the file i picked was either a divx or xvid encoded version. i just closed virtualdub when i realized that my out-point was far too into the video. perhaps, that's why it was "raw."?)

i looked at all of the videos with gspot, an all but one of the problematic ones is mono ac3. again, these had played properly before. therin lies the mystery.

if the boys nag enough, i'll just put them up as mpeg files. luckily summer is almost here and they'll be outdoors more. or maybe i'll re-install gbpvr.

thanks, again.

If you upload the whole xvid I will still have a look. It will be smaller than the piece you uploaded. I can't see a re-install or a new install fixing this.
