I've updated the wiki page "Configuring OTA ATSC HD channels (USA)" http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Confi...HDTVSource

Please let me know if you find any errors, omissions, etc. or if you think it neeeds clarification.

I just bought the same Hauppauge HVR-1600. I haven't been able to find the BDA device configuration screen. I've set up the WinTV applications that were on the CD. Do the BDA drivers get install automatically or are these drivers separate, if so where do I get them.

Go to: "Capture Source" tab --> "Add" button --> "Recording Source - Digital Recording Plugin" --> "Setings" button.

Let me know if it is what you are looking for, I'll modify wiki.

I don't quite understand the how creating two xml files would speed up your channel selection.
If you want to discuss it, I think this thread ... would be more appropriate.

I was commenting on the situation of a HVR-1600 owner who wants to receive both analog and digital (ATSC or QAM) and has some control over his guide data such that the XML file that will be associated with a source in config can be set up to 1) include both analog and digital channels in a single XML file, or 2) two separate files, one for digital and one for analog.

I have this control using MceEpg2XmlTv. It's been so long since I used zap2it's predecessor to Schedules Direct that I'm not sure if that option is there, and I haven't played with yapi and the others long enough to know if this is an option.

If he sets it up with option 1, then he needs to associate the same XML file for both sources and both will have channels that have to be unticked.

If he sets it up with option 2, then the analog source has only the analog stations and the digital only the digital. During setup I initiially used option 1.

Because I was just learning, I found that I had to repeatedly clear the EPG database and reload. Every time I did that, when set up with option 1 I found myself unticking analog stations in the digital source and vice-a-versa. It was a pain.

Reconfiguring to option 2 solved that problem. It also helped when the EPG guide changed. I was configured to automatically add new channels. These showed up in config as unticked channels, and since there were no others, they were easier to spot instead of seeing them buried in a long list of analog channels not received by the digital source.

Dennit, I actually totally agree with what you're talking about... the process of mapping digital channels to the epg has been a tedious process for me. The fact that there's no way to shift-select in the actual interface or save custom channel lists in gb-pvr has been a sometime nuisance for me.

I've been using schedulesdirect, and it doesn't really offer an easy way to select which of your epg's you want to use, which would also solve this. I may have to try your number "2" method.

I see your point now.

I am using Yapixml and have only 14 channels (7 ATSC and 7 analog). Yapi collects info on around 280 channels for Comcast and then extracts info on those 14 channels into xml. GBPVR config sees only these 14 channels so there are not too many to tick off. Plus Yapi remembers my setup in ini file so I can easyly add or delete from there.

I'll modify wiki to point that each tuner can have its own independent EPG source.

When I first set up, I also used yapi. Initially, I brought in all 280 channels (I actually have more than that) and tried to deselect channels I did not receive inside GBPVR. That was horrendous.

Next I configured to bring in only the stations I receive - QAM digital and analog and used that smaller XML EPG for both analog and digital. That was better, but still difficult, particularly because as khidr points out, there is no shift-select.

Finally, I realized that I could make two runs of yapi (or MceEpg2XmlTv) to produce two different XML files. That made life much easier.
