After careful consideration, I've decided to go with the USB-UIRT to control my cable through GBPVR. I have a digital cable box by Zenith. Is all that I need is the USB-UIRT, or do I need some third-party software...like Girder. I don't really know about Girder, but I've heard it thrown around on some other boards.

Contrary to popular belief, I do know a thing or two about computers...but this seemingly simple thing is throwing me for a loop!

Thanks

Dave

Hey Davidwellsuga. All you will need is your USB-UIRT to control your box. GBPVR already have builtin support. I'm using it to control my Bell Expressvu Sat box and it works great!

Let me know if you have any other questions. [Image: smile.gif]

davisj36,

Thanks for the advice. How does the USB-UIRT work anyway? I'm guessing it takes the IR signal from your cable remote and sends the command back out to the box? Sub said I'm going to have to re-arrange my PVR since it's beside my STB and not in front.

How did you do your setup?

Thx,

Dave

The USB-UIRT effectively pretends to be a remote control and fakes buttons being pushed. When you setup your USB-UIRT in GB-PVR, it goes through the processing of learning each button 0 - 9. It plays these signals back when it needs to change channels.

I think I am finally understanding...the USB-UIRT essentially turns your computer into one large remote control. It learns the cable remote's commands and synthesizes them, shooting them back to the STB...thanks for putting up with my ignorance.

the USB-UIRT's with the receiver and sender are on backorder right now...drat. [Image: laugh.gif]
