Ok - not looking good for Quality control on the Hauppauge Nova-T-500 cards. The first one is/was perfect. The second one when I re-tested it actually tunes all the channels with good signal strength but records giberish (Stuttered audio with a garbage picture - splashes of color) and that was when I swapped it with the working one in the lounge pc too. The third card gives no signal at all. I'm going to take the 3rd one to my old employer who has an antenna on the roof for testing TV cards and its only 3 or so Km's from the Sugarloaf transmitter and see if it picks anything up then.
Before anyone thinks "I bet he's breaking them" - I'm a technician and been building/fixing pc's since 1993.
So if anyone else is doubting themselves with a new Nova-T-500 then it very likely could be faulty as I've had 2 out of 3 cards faulty. The working one was retail box with remote, the other two MCE Whitebox without remote so for the whitebox its a 100% failure rate so far!
Great cards when they work - I've used and sold at least 10 of the WinTV-PVR-500 cards and never had a fault - and the Nova-T-500's are good cards when working well but something has to be up or I'm just REALLY unlucky.
