Hi All,

I have been using GBPVR for some time and I had been one machine as both a back end (record video) and front end (Playback). The problem is two fold. I think it noisy (and I have done a ton of work on fixing this) and it seems clunky and limited.

I friend who uses Myth told me he does front end/back end with two different machines which lead me to do some searching of the forum.

Would getting a Hauppauge MVP be a good front end alternative? I have ripped most of my DVD (40+) into MPEG2 VOB files using DVDDecrypter so I prefer not to translate them all, I would like to watch what I record though we do not do a ton of that.

Has someone tried this approach and could give me some feedback before I spend $ and or get grilled by the wife. Anything to keep the interface simple is a great help for my wife and my sanity.

I have a Galaxy 3500 IPTV which I guess could also work as a front end but lacks some of the "niceness" interface that GBPVR does.

I will have to leave the DVD VOB for someone else to answer as I don't use them.
We the wife & I have three MVP's & the MVP server lives on top of the hall cupboard (a bit of a pain when it is time to update gb but I can live with that) & have found them brilliant. You should be able to pick one up secondhand for a good price these days. You could also have a look at the PCH as another (more up to date) alternative.

Thanks...I will try it. I did some searching and I found that it was quoted that GBPVR will do the decoding of VOB (MPEG2) in the background if I read the post correct. I am up in the air on the PCH right now. I need to update my signature...doh.
