mikeh49 Wrote:Zehd, since you have good picture quality on a large LCD TV, what are your settings:

Video Card/Driver/Settings
Renderer
Picture resolution (1366X768?)
Connection to TV (VGA, DVI, HDMI)
Any PVR settings tweaked, driver version

I also record and view analog SD on a 40" sony LCD TV, and, while the picture is OK, I wouldn't consider it great. I also added an amp because of all the splitters.

I'd be happy to share my settings if anyone is interested.

Thanks.

** ATI radeon 9250 with default drivers (the omega drivers seem to act funny and not allow me to use VMR9 with GB-PVR) Default settings

** nVidia PureVideo decoder. I used the tweak tool I built (with most of the ideas from CSY and distributed
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/...coderTweak

**DVI to HDMI cable, primary video (HDMI kept acting weird when Secondary)

** My screen says it is optimized for 1366x768 but I could only find 1360x768 Looks fine to me

** ffdshow set to provide Prologic surround sound, still using 2 lead RCA audio cables. Set the TV's audio to spacial enhancements. I don't have actual surround on the TV. Just fake stuff

** klite Codec pack 1.67 I purposely use this pack, in spite of it being dated. With each new release, the pack gets more and more bells and whistles, and I'm getting too old for that shit... I use mostly the defaults. I make sure NOT to select anything other than ffdshow (eg To do NOT select ac3filter)

Of course I also tweaked my TV itself, changing the contrast, brightness etc...

With ZProcess/MVP, no drivers or codecs. basically a 'Trans2MVP' preset, just changed to 16x9, 720x480 and 6000 bitrate I get about 56 fps transcoding speed...

I just brought down the MVP and plugged in with s-video. I switched between that and my HDMI, and played the same video. Only real difference was the audio was a bit clearer using the direct from computer, rather than from the MVP. But it was mostly just the spacial thing...

mvallevand Wrote:Here in Ottawa our third OTA HD station started this week. Because of the rules that allow the cable co's to override US HD broadcasts with Canadian equivalents I think we will get reasonable choice before broadcasters are forced to do it. Too bad I wanted to see the American Super Bowl commercials that I haven't seen since I had a B.U.D.

This new channel (SunTV) is interesting because it was never analog and they are broadcasting HD and SD over one ATSC channel. It cuts into the HD bandwidth but it will be great for recording the majority SD content.

As for comskip on the Popcorn Hour don't count on it.

Martin

The best thing was when I did an all points bulletin scan for signals and found a slough of QAM channels from Shaw. They're supposed to be hidden, and I can't record them. I suppose if I had a HVR1600, I might. But after the initial excitement, I realized none of them were HD and the picture didn't look that much better than when I amped my analog signal...

I realize that compskip and Popcorn is not a question of will on our side, but rather the manuf/devs being sticky... It's amazing how far you have come... But I couldn't rely on comskip to point of cutting the commercials from the original. Too many differences amongst the different channels... So I need that...

Oh well, maybe something else will turn up before 2011. Maybe something without a cheesy name like Popcorn Hour :p

Thanks for the info. I'm setup almost exactly the same, with a 9600Pro, Purevideo and csy's tweaks. I missed your tweak tool, so I'll take a look at that to see if there is anything I missed.

Yeah I worked with CSY when he had them out, to build a wizard. It's great that I don't think about it anymore... (never had time to do it for the other two video card/drivers sets..)

There was one thing that I was worried about, and I don't really know how I fixed it. There was a sort of tearing of video across the top forth... but after reinstalling the drivers and running the tweak tool again.. and rebooting... it's OK now
