Let's start with my sys stats: 2ghz athon XP (Bios reports Duron) 1Gb Ram, 300 GB IDE drive (7200rpm), pvr150 analog x 2.

OK, so this system has been able to record two shows shows side by side while watching a recording (either something previously recorded OR one of the ones in progress) using either an MVP or a PC client. It's been fine for more than a year, GB-PVR version always current (never beta). I can even work the CPU by transcoding a non mpg to MVP...

Had the Time stamp error a year or so ago, but fixed as per the TimeStamp Thread...

Recently, I hooked up my LCD screen dvi/hdmi to the 'server' and ran the GUI on the server. When I watch anything, one or both of the recordings in progress will get this weird time issue.

I can watch the shows straight through, and nary a glitch, but the total time is wrong (eg 32 min for a 1:02 show) and FF, skip ff, and rew, skip rewind, send the program into the bermuda triangle, randomly picking stop skip points.

THen when I skip a bunch forward or back, I can get back to where I was.

It seems that the whole teleporting to a random location only happens after about 10 minutes of viewing the program. A commercial comes on, (comskip is also messed for these programs) and I try to skip through, and I'm like 20 min in the future...

I'm sure the drive is fragmented. Last time I worried about it, it was nasty. But as soon as I stopped caring, fragmentation didn't seem to be a problem. It was a mind set Big Grin

I'm guessing that it's disk access, but why can I view a programme with MVP or PC client? Should be the same disk access.

I also guess that it's the GUI in memory, probably set to Above Normal CPU (that competes with the recording service also set to Above Normal) I'm using VMR Exclusive, so that might not be letting the computer breathe also...

My solution is fairlly simple. Just don't run a GUI on the server. But I wanted to ask what it could be, and maybe there's a fix...

(also, when might you be revisiting the PC client, so that resuming will work when File Sharing is used? I can start another thread if you want)

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Its probably along the lines of what you've suggested. Defragment the hard drive, make sure the you dont have it set to give high priority to the gui etc. I'd also double check those PVR150 timestamp registry settings are in place.

I had some oddities with simultaneous record and playback of different shows - it ended up being disk access times.
XP, for one of it's strange reasons, decided to switch to DMA mode for IDE/SATA transfers and the data rate dropped dramatically. After some searching, I deleted the IDE ports ad rebooted to get them rediscovered. (I think it may have started with a read error)

I used HDTach to check transfer rates.
