Hi all,

I am very close to getting GBPVR to work and am excited to use it as a PVR. But I'm having problems with HDTV. When I try to watch live tv or a recorded show (via gbpvr or windows media player), all I get is a blank screen. I can hear the audio, but no video. I have tried using the nVidia purevideo codec and a a sonic cineplayer codec and they give me the same results. What I did find is, if I turn off hardware acceleration, everything works, but my CPU usage is 100% and there's stuttering. Can anyone help me to get hardware acceleration to work? Or, can someone tell me how I can get the VLC codecs to work? Because if I play the recorded video with VLC, I only use 80% cpu - which will be good enough for me. Or, if anyone can suggest an mpeg2 codec that uses the least amount of processor power, that would work too.

My computer has an ATI 650 capture card with an nVidia 6800GS video card. It's old school, but I'm hoping to breath new life into this old machine. Could it be that the ATI and nVidia are fighting with eachother? :p

Thanks in advance!

i think it's the video card...it's on the edge of being able to do it...may be able to get it looking better if the stars align, but just barely...
i would try ffdshow and set output to interlaced,nv21 colorspace and bob and you'll at least get hardare deinterlace and bring it down to half cpu...Smile
and actually may try ati decoder and EVR renderer [inst. dotnet3] if that don't work..
dscaler is a solid choice too..

Thanks so much for your help pBS! I tried out ffdshow tryouts and couldn't figure out how to get it to send anything to the video card for acceleration. It all goes to my CPU - although it does have slightly better CPU usage.

I will try out ATI decoder and EVR renderer and dscaler. Hopefully one of those is the secret weapon. If you have any tips on getting the decoder to use the graphics card for acceleration, I would love to hear it. Oh, by the way, I just realized I entered my video card in wrong, I have a geforce 7600 - which should be better, right? The only problem is my CPU is only a Athleon 2500+.

Thanks!

Ffdshow doesn't support hardware acceleration.
Infact hardware acceleration doesn't work if you load any kind of video filter like ffdshow or even vobsub.
