divx or xvid conversion help

i found the stattik script. It works quite well. Why does it work so well even in 1 pass mode compared to the built in function. I mean better quality and smaller files. Is mencoder that much better than ffmpeg? I always thought it was the other way around.

They are actually so inbred it isn't funny... They each have their merits, but I think MEncoder is better and faster, but that's based on my transcoding in ZProcess
