For the past few months my Nova-T 500 has been behaving itself but in the last two weeks an old unsolved problem has returned with avengence (even though nothing has changed on the system and the drivers are the last released by Hauppauge).

When recording programmes on both tuners, the 1st tuner stops sending data when the recording on the 2nd tuner finishes. This means the 1st recording gets truncated. If another recording starts on the 2nd tuner whilst the 1st tuner is in this suspended state, the 1st tuner resumes sending data so you get a final recording with a beginning, no middle and an end.

This happens regularily and is driving the WAF crazy

I know Sub previously blamed it on the Hauppauge drivers although it doesn't happen the way they're used in the WinTV programme. I also saw a note that doing a signal strength enquiry on the non-recording tuner caused the dormant one to start sending data again.

Is there anything that can be done to fix or work around this annoying problem or should I just bin the Nova-t and buy a different tuner? (I chose the Nova-T 500 as I need to be able to record multiple channels and have limited PCI slots available on the motherboard).

Drat, I knew I should have copied the last lot. Unfortunately because the logging level is set high, the logs roll over very quickly.

What I can tell you is that I've looked at the logs many times and there are no errors. As far as the logs are concerned, all the recordings complete normally. There's nothing to indicate Tuner 1 went "dumb" or recovered.

I have the signal strength checking turned on and it reports Tuner 1's strength all the way through the recording even when the data stops when tuner 2 recording finishes. The data stream only seems to start again if a new recording starts on Tuner 2.

I've enclosed an extract of the only log not overwritten (GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native-1,log)

Blame the WAF for the programme choice :o

Sat 25/10
17:19 Hole in the Wall BBC1 starts recording on Tuner 1
17:49 Merlin BBC1 Recording on Tuner 2
17:52 Hole in the Wall on Tuner 1 finishes recording OK
18:34 Strictly Come Dancing BBC1 starts recording on Tuner 1
18:37 Merlin on Tuner 2 finishes recording OK
20:04 The National Lottery starts recording on Tuner 2
20:07 Strictly Come Dancing on Tuner 1 finishes recording OK
20:54 Casualty BBC1 starts recording on Tuner 1
20:57 The National Lottery on Tuner 2 finishes recording OK
20:57 Casualty data stream stops
21:24 All Star Family Fortunes ITV1 starts recording on Tuner 2
21:24 Casualty data stream resumes
21:47 Casualty on Tuner 1 finishes recording (with missing mid section)
22:12 All Star Family Fortunes on Tuner 2 finishes recording ok

Most of these are back-to-back on the same channel (standard padding)

The GBPVRRecordingservice.exe.log showed "checking signal status" for each active tuner all the time each tuner was active (including when Tuner 1 went dumb)

I'm just wondering if GBPVR doing a signal status check on a tuner just after it's stopped recording would work around the problem? (I know it would be a cludge relative to the Nova-Ts but there are a lot of them out there and I know I'm not the only one who's had this problem)

Any help appreciated.

During testing of this problem, I found that a signal check as you suggest does restart the stalled recording and would be a reasonable workaround IMHO.
