I assume MVPMCX2 is the same as MVPMC just a new version?

If so whats new about it? (why is it different)?

Also, with the standard MVP, you have a DHCP server, this gives out the IP address then it doesnt a broadcast to find a "server" which GBPVR responds and sends over the dongle....

Now does PopcornHour do the same???? whats with all the uploading of files and telnets all about?

I need a HD replacement for the MVP, i see Popcorn sounds nice, worried about all the file playing (to old for this stuff now).

mvpmcx2 and mvpmc share a lot of the emulation mode logic based on the Hauppauge protocol but the hardware platform is completely different and that is about all they share.

The instructions just need to be followed exactly I'm an old guy too, and unfortunately many people don't and post some questions. That being said I have almost completed a new new installer that make this a whole lot easier.

Sounds good, but whats the visual difference between them both? looks? hardware it will run on?

Run one on the old Hauppauge MVP and the other on the Popcornhour.

The PCH can be setup directly and given it's own IP address (the preferred method) so it no longer needs a DHCP server.


For me - It's not easy visualising it without having one connected up. Browsing the setup instructions doesn't give a real feel of what is needed and/or how it works. However, once you have one in your hands it is easy to setup.

The dns stuff is really not an issue, other than the mvp can't have a static ip. The main difference is the Hauppauge dongle needs to load a linux kernel and once the kernel is loaded, mvpmc runs at startup. The nmt devices boot right onto linux so only the application mvpmvx2 needs to run.

I strongly recommend against reading the survival guide to understand it before you get a pch, it won't make sense.
