I added a 1TB disk to the original 750, for a volume size of about 1.7TB. The file system appears to be in good shape, and all the recordings appear to be intact. The "System" menu reports the correct tally of free and total space.

However, the PVR recordings guide now shows only a small fraction of the preexisting recordings, even though the recordings themselves are intact. Is there a way to regenerate the database?

Make sure the files are in the exact same path as before - if you exported your recordings, look at the XML file. I moved from a 2 disk system to a single disk, and this threw me for a bit until I realized I had to do a search and replace for the old path and replace with the new path, and all was well.

Ah, so you went down the dynamic disk route then!

The only thing that I can this happened is that gbpvr was started when not all of the recordings were available. By default, it deletes recordings that it cannot find on disk. Is this possible?

Edit recordings-dump.xml in notepad and see if it contains your missings recordings. If so, run config.exe, plugins tab, import recordings, select recordings-dump.xml.

I didn't export anything. I converted the disk to dynamic. It showed up with the same drive letter, the contents intact. I added a 2nd physical disk to it. In Config "directories", I did try changing it, hoping to cause the database to regenerate itself.

All the recordings are in one folder which was never explicitly moved. 69 episodes of Seinfeld are visible. Hundreds of gigs of programs in intact folders do not show up, and they were created in the same original disk configuration as the Seinfeld episodes.

The existing recordings-dump.xml reflected the absences in the program guide. But I have an Acronis image backup I made before the conversion. I opened the image, extracted the older dump, imported it, and all is well.

It seems to me that there should be some facility to generate/reconcile that file from a recordings folder.

There are a couple of utils around for recreating the db, including this one

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/VidImport

I'm glad everything is now working ok.
