I almost exclusively use the Video Library plugin in GBPVR and pretty much like it the way it is. However, I would be pleased to see some sort of indicator showing if a file has been watched, or any other method that helps track one's progress through multiple seasons & series (remembering the last position in every visited directory?). A quick search through the forums showed a couple similar requests but no corresponding solution.

The easiest way I can see to do this myself is to write a video plugin, making it as similar to the original as I can. I'm guessing that the relevant feature would involve creating a new skin.xml which uses a @textStyle property to be filled in with white/gray depending on the contents of PLAYBACK_POSITION in gbpvr.db3. That seems easy enough, but duplicating the existing functionality seems like wasted effort.

Is it worthwhile for me to do this?

Thanks sub.

You could try the tv recordings plugin in conjunction with vidImport it would pretty much do what you say.

I make heavy use of the delete button in Video Library and, in general, it seems like I would have to run this tool quite often to keep things in sync. I'll give it a try but I'm not sure this is the long-term solution I'm looking for. So my original question stands.

Nonetheless, some vidImport suggestions:

Modify it to run without admin privileges (i.e. change registry logic)
Accept custom regex (perl regex with capture groups for title/season/episode?)
Accept exclude regex (to ignore specific dirs or just import them as-is)
Add percent complete printf to metadata step (%, #dir/dirs, #file/files)

Thanks carpeVideo.

A couple bugs I encountered:
-The '&' character causes filename parsing problems.
-I had to change encoding from "UTF-8" to "ISO-8859-1" before importing.

Anyway, I'm convinced that it would be more work to clean up my files properly than to just create a new Video plugin (or wait for feedback from sub). Thanks for your suggestion though.

I didnt really intend to take the Video Library in the direction you're suggesting. It was only ever intended to be a simple file browser.

Stuff like indicators for things that been watched was what the Recordings screen was intended for, so it would be hassle to try duplicating this type of functionality in the Video Library screen. (you mention needing 'delete' often, but you can also do this from the Recordings screen)

Is the intent to keep it as stateless as possible / avoid db access? If you could extend the feature which remembers where you are in a directory, that would be enough.

I'm finishing the plugin and was wondering if anyone else would have any interest in it. It's meant to be a drop-in replacement for the original Video Library, but open to anyone who might want to make changes. Right now, for instance, it prompts with a filename before deleting and it marks files as watched after ten seconds in. I do hope to keep it as simple as its predecessor though.

Copied from the code (in order of priority):
//TODO: Determine how to modify scrolling behavior to not hug bottom.
//TODO: Jump to entry based on number/letter keypress.
//TODO: Finish Play All, Shuffle, Transcode buttons.
//TODO: Thumbnails across relevant view modes.
//TODO: Update textStyle based on view mode.
