For those who have been successful getting QAM with their HVR1600, please post what driver version you are using.
Thanks

Paul

I can only get qam to work with the Cd 3.4d1 version drivers. If I update to the newer drivers I lose my qam. I'm on comcast cable.

I have the same problem, Clear QAM with 3.4D1 and not with 4.6 or 4.8. This is with WinTV6 as well. Hauppauge doesn't really deserve to still be around with such bad support as this. They are up to revision 4.8 and still haven't noticed that they broke QAM tuning on the HVR-1600 for Comcast users (and others perhaps). I can't wait until they get bought out by a company that knows how to write drivers and apps, and design tuners that don't require a cable amp to see the signal.

To be fair, even though they're far from perfect, I think Hauppauge does a much better job supporting their devices than any of the other manufacturers. Most of the manufactures put out the original reference drivers supplied by the chipset provider, and nothing will ever get fixed. I remember numerous times in the past that we've identfied problems to Hauppauge and they've fixed the problem and provided updated drivers. If you spot a problem, you've got to let them know about it though, otherwise thy're unlikely to do anything about it.

They also have good developer relations, supplying sample devices, and information to help make their devices work well.

OK, maybe that was a bit too ranty. I'm still waiting to hear back from them. At the very least, they must know that there is a signal issue on the HVR-1600's that require people with perfectly good signals to shell out extra money to buy a drop amplifier just to get it to work. Maybe I'm in the minority about the new drivers breaking Clear QAM for me, but I think the consensus is that an amp is needed to use this card.

I just put in my HVR-1600.

What kind of amp are you using to boost the signal?

HVR1600 here, Comcast analog & QAM here using CD_4.a+.zip drivers that I just now downloaded from Hauppauge.

My biggest trouble is switching tuners while channel surfing up or down. If I use the program guide to switch, it's slow as death switching tuners, but it works.

Would be nice to clean up the analog picture some, too - it's far better coming off the same splitter going directly into the TV. QAM looks great.

I have two HVR-1600 tuner cards, and while the analog side worked fine with Comcast cable, I never could get the QAM tuners to work correctly. I tried a few different drivers, tried installing signal boosters, upgraded all my cabling, and even had Comcast come out and verify my signals were good. I finally gave up on digital cable and switched to an outdoor antenna (which works great).

Recently I purchased a HVR-2250 and tried it with my Comcast cable connection. To my surprise it works perfectly right out of the box, much better than my HVR-1600's. It has no trouble locking on to all available QAM channels and makes perfect recordings.

Every now and then I get pixelation and errors in a show, but I think that's an issue with Comcast's signal and not the tuner cards.

I abandoned the analog side of my HVR-1600's, and still use the digital tuners with an outdoor antenna. Then I pick up two more QAM stations on the HVR-2250. I'm all digital now and can record four shows at once. I'm tempted to replace my HVR-1600's with another HVR-2250, but I don't have any more PCI-e slots available.

My HVR-1600 picks up QAM just fine but I'm on Knology, not comcast. I'll report on which drivers I'm using later (the HTPC is not on right now so I can't remote into it and see).

I have not had any trouble with my 1600 either. The low number analog channels actually look better on it then they do with the tv's internal tuner. I'm not using a signal amplifier in fact I'm using the opposite: the signals runs through a 4 way, and then a 3 way splitter before getting to the hvr-1600...
