I have buttons on my laptop for volume control. If I use them, the volume bar shows up and the volume is adjusted. If I use the left and right arrow keys, the volume bar shows up and the volume is adjusted.

However - if I use the left and right arrow keys after using the laptop volume controls, it seems to resort to the volume level as it was before the laptop volume buttons were used. Pressing the left arrow key (to decrease volume) can actually result in the volume being increased.

To recreate:
Use right arrow key to increase volume.
Use laptop (volume -) key to decrease volume a few steps.
Use left arrow key - volume increases!

Thats because you're changing the volume outside of GB-PVR and its not aware of the change happening.

Its probably best to either control in GB-PVR, or outside of it, but not both. If you want to control it outside GB-PVR, then set the volume setting in the config app to 'None (External)'.

Hmm. Interesting

On "None (External)" - the arrow keys bring up the volume control thing at the top of the screen but don't change it. The laptop keys change the volume but the volume control thing doesn't show

On "Master Volume" - both the arrow keys AND the laptop keys bring up the volume control thing, and adjust the volume, with the bug as mentioned. GVPVR seems to be aware of the laptop keys because it shows the laptop volume at the top, but doesn't acknowledge the volume change internally?

On "Local volume" - only the arrow keys bring up the volume control thing, but both change the volume.

Is that just as it should be?

i use them as a 'feature'..Big Grin like having a volume with 'memory'

i use my vol up/dn for fast [16 step] volume changes, usually in up direction, and the left/rt arrows for lower end, more precise volume changes...[256 steps or 'notches'] usually for softer volumes....
so when i want to crank it up for a sec, i hit up, and when i want to quickly go back to regular volume, just a hit on arrows 'remembers' the original volume range and starts where it left off..

kinda like a 'soft mute' Smile

I've noticed this effect too, and to some extent it makes sense.

However, I must question you: if, as you say, GB-PVR is not aware of the change happening, then how does it know to display and update the volume OSD?

I'm running Vista and dont get this here. Back when I was on XP I was doing some experiementing in this area, so there maybe something in ther still functioning enough to do that.

Ah yes, that must be it. I do recall when I had Vista the volume controls worked differently. It seemed that the volume control on my remote would change the volume, but didn't show anything on screen. For me, the XP way is actually better... I simply don't use the arrow key volume, so the remote volume works and displays as expected.

For those who use both, as pBS said, call it a feature...
