DVD films collection transcoded in Xvid with AC3 sound don't have sound when played from the video library. The ones I transcoded with mp3 sound work.
What do I need to have sound? I don't want to have to re-transcode them. I have AC3 codecs installed and recordings from the HD PVR with Spifs (AC3) play fine.

I think you need to change the audio codec on the Playback tab.
Divx/xvid with AC3 works perfectly here. Use the same one you use on the DVD tab.

If I set ac3 in playback sound , I don't get audio from my recordings, just crackling. I set it to use arcsoft hd audio and the recordings from the hd pvr play fine with audio. I suspect that they're ac3 because I use Spdif from the stb to the hdpvr with 5.1 sound.
Do I need direct show filters? I don't have them because I don't use WMPlayer and I didn't install WMP 10.

There is tools you can use to check the files, Gspot is one. Load the files in Gspot and check if it is AC3 or something else.

I had some real problems a while back to get rid of conflicting codecs and get all to work smooth.
Could be that you need to revise your ac3-filter settings.

One way to do it is find to see if it works in wmp outside of GBPVR, if it does, then set your playback to system default. You can use graphedit to drop the file in question into it and it will tell you what is in use. If it's not what you like or it doesn't work, go into GSPOT and set the merit levels of the particular codecs you want until it does work.

IIRC, I've seen posts from sub saying that newer versions of wmp don't always use the same codecs as graphedit or system default.

I think it's probably best to just render the file in graphedit and play it directly inside graphedit to see what "system default" settings will do.
Even graphedit may do something different than system default in GBPVR if the codec (like ffdshow) has a whitelist/blacklist feature.

The default for ffdshow is to allow graphedit to use it, but not allow GBPVR/PVRX2, so this needs to be changed if graphedit uses ffdshow and you expect system default to do the same.
