Hi,

I just got a slew of mkv movies and I would like to be able to access the embedded subtitles and audio tracks in GBPVR. Can anyone help get that working? Also, it would be required to switch them using the remote or else all else is moot.

I've got it working using MPC-HC through My Videos but i'd like to have it native in GBPVR.

Thanks.

There is no built in support for mkv files. It just askes Windows to play them. I seem to remember reading that some people used ffdshow, which monitored keystrokes to allow switching subtitles - this might be an option for you. I might be able to add support for this in NPVR in the future, but nothing further will be done on the GBPVR front.

yes, I'm looking into that as we speak. As you say though it'll do subtitles but I'm not sure about audio tracks - which I need. Part of my problem is that I need DXVA which ffdshow now supports so some more playing around.

For those interested, it looks like divx has a multithread capable hd decoder which I might also try (work arounds are possible so that we don't have to actually do an install of the whole software package).

If your remote support keystruck mapping, you can use SAF5 for subtitles/audio tracks switch.
By default it is mapped to CTRL+ALT+numpad0 and CTRL+ALT+numpad1
DxVA+subtitles are supported too.

Hoborg,

I've looked at what you offered and I've got cccp installed. Should I uninstall cccp then run SAF5? Other filters I've got installed are MPC stand alone filters (with matroska splitter) and haali splitter.

Should I de-register these that overlap?

Thanks.

Edit: Also, I have a really old version of GBPVR which doesn't have the "advanced codec" tab in playback. How will this affect SAF5?

Remove all - decoders, splitters, haali, etc...
SAF5 (unlocked) have build in all what is needed for media playback.
If you play your file in Graphstudio, you should be able to play it in GB-PVR.
Only exception is TS files.

Hoborg,

how do I go about removing decoders? Is there a list of decoders somewhere where I can just tick or right click to uninstall? The simple one is cccp and powerdvd, but how do I make sure that I get rid of them all.

Last night I upgraded my CCCP and my mpg files stopped working. I had to revert back to an older image.

Thanks.

Just uninstall them.
SAF will create a LOGs after install with info about all decoder installed. I can look if you wish.

Hi Hoborg,

thanks for helping me out here. I haven't installed SAF and instead tried using the newest CCCP again. This time I un-installed the old one first then installed the newest version. It started working mostly so I'm not going to use SAF at the moment. When I get some free time or another machine I will probably use SAF though. I"ve only got my production machine which the whole family uses so there's not much down time.

I do have a question for you though...what is the difference between CCCP and what you have? Both installs ffdshow and some splitters. I guess you customize somethings like changing config.xml and change merits so that it works better in GBPVR?

Some other points of clarification. I've got ffdshow working with DXVA and I can change subtitles and audio streams. There is one problem though and it's that the mkv can play but after a few times of exiting it kills gbpvr and I have to restart. Once restarted and I try to play a video the whole system locks up and I have to do a hard reset. Have you encountered this?

Another question is when you mentioned DXVA above do you mean with FFDSHOW or with PDVD? If it's with PDVD can you still switch audio streams and subtitles using the short cut key? I'm thinking the crashing is related to FFDSHOW DXVA so I'd like to try a different h.264 decoder. Another thing for me to try out is to update my Catalyst drivers - they are three years old.

Finally, I'm using a very old version of GBPVR which I am worried that is not compatible with SAF. Need I be worried if I do end up installing SAF?

Oh yeah I forgot to add that I was kind of successful in mapping the audio stream switching and subtitle switching to my remote using irserver. I actually double mapped the keys to the blue button and yellow button...so it looks like this:

^y{PAUSE=500}^%{F4}

I say "kind of" because it doesn't seem very responsive. I don't know if it's ffdshow or the remote.
