Is it possible to override the windows button on a MCE remote control so it will open up GBPVR? The button currently opens windows media center, which I don't want to use. I know you can do it with HIP, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something easy in the registry or ini file.

I haven't used HIP but Event Ghost works really well here for me. I have a Gyration-USB RF remote and once you get the hang of it - its really easy to remap any button you want. You also have to be sure to disable the Media Center resident stuff or you'll continue to start MC with any other button that's mapped for it.

I've assigned shortcut keys (right-click a program -> properties) to programs I want my remote to open, then I change the ini file to map a button to that key.. for instance GBPVR is assigned shortcut F8 - and I mapped a button on the remote to F8....

Not sure if that's of any assistance.....

I think there are three Media Center services that need to be disabled (not changed to manual) in the services control panel. Then, In the startup tab of msconfig disable ehtray.exe from starting and then (in order to keep it from starting anyway) you have to rename it. I just called it "ehtray.exe.not" . If you don't rename it, it will keep starting every time you restart - it is very persistent!

So, I had a similar question about the guide button on the hauppauge remote. When I click the guide button, and I am in GBPVR, the GBPVR guide comes up, but it also starts up VMC from out of nowhere, and goes to the VMC guide. So, the only way to fix that is to stop all MC processes - the ones described in kayphoonstar's last post?

jdabling, that's the way I was able to get that kind of thing to stop happening. My guide button works in GBPvr now and it used to open VMC as well. The only recommendations that I was able to find anywhere involved the steps I described. The main thing is renaming ehtray.exe. I tried just disabling startup in msconfig but it kept getting added back to the startup every time the computer restarted. Renaming it stopped that from happening.
