Hello. I am trying to use GB-PVR to record shows from a Sagem Digital Cable TV Tuner. I have an Acer L250 Livingcenter PC with a Hauppauge WinTV 88x chipset TV card running Vista MCE. The tuner is connected to the S-Video input on the card.

I use Vista MCE to record from analog TV channels (via the coaxial input) but since I could not find a way to select other inputs from Vista MCE, I installed GB-PVR.

I added the "External S-Video" capture source, and now I am able to view the live image from my TV tuner box via GB-PVR. However, the image seems to be clipped, for example I cannot see the subtitles in the lower end of the TV image.

I have played around with aspect ratio settings in the config.xml file, and I am able to squeeze the image. However, when I squeeze the image it is still clipped, and the lower part of the screen becomes black (instead of showing the lower part of the image containing subtitles etc.)

When I watch video on the S-Video input via the Hauppauge WinTV 2000 application, the image looks fine (no clipping occurs).

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

I had a similar issue with the Sagem STB, in the box there is a setting for scart-output format, It's set to HD by default and I always got the wrong aspect ratio until I set output to be SD.

Hello Reddwarf. Thank you for your suggestion. I have already experimented with the different settings on my STB, e.g. enable/disable HD output and switch between 16:9 and 4:3 format. However, the clipping of the image still appears even if I choose to disable the HD output.

That would be my next suggestion Smile. If the wrong country is set it may expect NTSC with a different framerate, and clipping would certinly appear it size is not set corresponding.

The country is set to Norway. Where do I set the "recording size"?
Under Quality Profile Settings->Edit Capture Settings, the video resolution is set to "NTSC 720x480 / PAL 720x576".

I experimented also with the overscan settings in config.xml file, but I was still not able to get rid of the clipping.

However, I have found a (partial) solution. Under "Misc->Live Preview mode", the "Use Live Preview mode if possible" box was checked, and the deinterlacing filter was set to "Encoder pass-through". If I change the deinterlacing filter to "None", or if I choose "ffdshow raw audio filter", the clipping disappears(!) and the image looks normal.

However, the sound has disappeared. When I choose "Encoder pass-through" I get a clipped image with sound. Any other setting (including if I uncheck the "Use Live Preview mode") gives me an image without the clipping problem, but without any sound(!)

How, how can I get my sound back?

Best regards,

It sounds like its being caused by the MPEG2 decoder you're using (which is only used when the deinterlacing is set to 'encoder pass-through').
