Does anybody know of a SW CAM that can read the smartcard from a USB cardreader? I'v looked at PoorMansCam and some other but they all require a serial-port reader (RS232) and I have an USB reader.

I'm NOT looking for a cam that uses a keyfile to crack the encryption, but a SW CAM that can replace the add-on CI module for a digital DVB card.

Acamd can do this. It has to option to connect to COM ports 1 - 5. In my case ports 3, 4 and 5 are virtual ports.

Sounds good, does one need a special driver to get a virtual port? Or how is it set up?

When I installed my USB card reader, it automaticly shows up as a COM port in Windows. So I guess this also goes for your card reader.

No it doesn't, my cardreader is a CardMan (21 something). What brand is yours?

There isnt really a standard that all card readers adhere to, so they typically used by software in different ways. Most of the multidec plugins will only talk to a Phoenix/Smartmouse style card reader.

Mmmm, that would mean buying a serial cardreader and since I have no serial port on my htpc I would need an interface card for it, but I'm out of slots on my motherboard....

I think I will go for a wireless cardsplitter.

I'm fairly sure there are some USB Phoenix/Smartmouse card readers. These USB devices install some virtual serial software, so software just seems them as a regular serial port attached device.
